Our marriage counselor suggested that since the H and I are separated that we should go out on a date. So my H called me last week and said we would go out tonight. Who should make the suggestion as to where to go. I'm just afraid that my husband won't have fun or enjoy himself and if he doesn't that would really make up his mind if he wants to come back or not.

ela,
try and be his companion - meaning go where he likes to have fun. If that's the bowling alley or the 18th hole on his favourite golf club - go there. Don't go anywhere which he'd hate or feel uncomfortable with.
If he asks you where you'd like to go, turn it around and say something like 'you know, I've been looking forward to spending some time with you and I'd really like to go somewhere which would be fun. Where could that be?'. Ask him what he likes to do, or where he likes to go, and try out those places. You can also use this as a chance to get to know him by asking personal questions.
good luck,
Freddy
