I posted this on another thread, but thought that there may be some people who could be helped by this story, so I put it out here for all to see.
************************************************
Used to pray for patience all the time. In my young mind, I guess, I was waiting for God to bundle up some patience and insert it into the proper part of my brain. *WRONG!* I kept praying for it, but couldn't understand why I still didn't seem to have any. In the meantime, I was always in the longest, slowest line. I was in the slowest, most backed-up lane. Everything I ordered in the mail got lost. People kept showing up late. I got frustrated, and prayed for more patience. And things kept happening to make me wait.
It is easy now to see the loop that I was in. God was teaching me patience by making me wait. I kept praying for more, and kept getting more.
In short, be careful what you ask for - God doesn't just give it to you, he teaches it to you. The more reluctant we are to learn, the more teaching we require. What a painful process!
