Single mom with nine month old baby boy. Dated the baby's father for three years. Took off when I got pregnant, thought I did it on purpose. Accused me of sleeping with someone else. I never lied to him, but more than once he's told me that I'm not being completely truthful with him. It drove me nuts, since I hadn't lied. He's divorced, was totally screwed by his ex, she was pregnant by someone else when they separated. We're now back together trying to work things out (at least give it a try for the sake of the baby). I love him, says he loves me so I want to take it to next level and get married. Suddenly were back to the issue of trust, although I still have not lied. What can I do to prove to this man that I'm being truthful? I know I shouldn't have to. Although I haven't touched on it here, there's a lot of "right" in our relationship along with the "wrong". Anybody have an idea?

Sorry that your SO doesn't trust you. Sounds like his past with his ex is the reason for his lack of trust. Maybe you could get him to submit to a blood test to prove that he is the father of your child. The results of that test should destroy any thoughts of trust. Good luck.

Thanks JSG - We did a paternity test and he was proven the father, although there was never a doubt in my mind. I think he's just totally paranoid about getting hurt again. I don't want to stay in the relationship if he can't trust me when I've given no reason not to.

Hi newmama,<P>You didn't say how long it's been since your SO had these problems with his ex? Time is a great doctor, and your honesty and consistency and loyalty will slowly rebuild his trust in relationships. It's not fair, since it wasn't you that destroyed it, but I don't know of any way to shorten that healing process...
