My husband and I have been happily married for 9 years. We have one daughter who is 4 years old. We always talked about having two children. Well, I feel that the time to have another child is now. I am 32 years old and my husband is 31. I have been wanting to have another child for a year now and my husband has been telling me he is not ready yet. I am starting to get very depressed about it. I do not want my children to be so far apart in age. My daughter wants a sibling so badly and she really needs one. She gets way to much attention! I just don't understand why my husband says no everytime I ask him. It is really starting to cause problems in our marriage. We don't have sex as often as we used to, and it is a topic we can't discuss without getting into a fight. I am really worried that he will never come around to wanting another baby. I am not sure what to do. It is something I want so badly and he doesn't want badly at all. HE says someday he will be ready, but has no idea when! What should I do. I am just sad about it and have no one to talk to.

I'm really sorry to hear about the sadness this is causing you. Have you tried, in a loving and non-judging way, to find out why your husband doesn't feel ready for another child? What does he need to feel ready? Does he have other goals - career advancement, home ownership - he wants to meet first? Maybe he's worried about the potential strain of a second child on your marriage? If you understood his reasoning, you may or may not be able to work toward readiness together, but even if you can't it might help make your wait easier.
