Hi. I have been married for 3 ½ years. I met my husband when I was 19, he was 25. We sort of dated for a while, but he had a fiancé over seas. Shortly following their break up, we moved in together. A year after we had been living together I found out that he had visited his ex and “got together” with her, then another girl while he was away one weekend. He did not tell me and when he returned we slept together, my first time. So when I found out I felt very much betrayed and almost broke up with him. But because I love him, I didn’t. He stopped all communication with his ex. I am now 27. We have a child and are unhappily married. He has MS and has cognitive and other disabilities due to the illness. Regardless of the MS, which has added a fair amount of stress, when I look back at our relationship I am not sure that he has ever met my emotional needs. And aside from the fact that he is a very special person who is dear to me, I can’t figure out why I stayed with him. He loves me to death but I am so hurt by years of disrespect, bad moods and inconsideration that I am no longer attracted to him. In fact, I am attracted to many other men and have developed “crushes”, which I know is a result of emotional needs not being met, etc. But now I am not sure if we were ever good for each other. I do love him but I think that if it weren’t for our daughter and the MS I would have left him long ago when I realized that he had little regard for my feelings. I don’t know what to do. My heart is torn.

I am sorry you are in a tough spot. Is your H willing at all to work with you on making the marriage better for you both? If so, the MB principles can be a great way to start building healthy marriage habits...and once that is done, there is a good chance you can be in-love again.
The MB Concepts (click on Concept link at top of the page) are a good place to start...so is this article www.marriagebuilders.com/graphic/mbi8114_plan.html.
Good luck!
