The wedding rings,<BR>looking unconvinced and out of place,<BR>weigh my hand down with fear.<BR>They're heavier now from unseen chains<BR>coupled with baggage not my own.<P>I couldn't throw these rings far enough away<BR>just to escape their weight.<BR>Their absence from my hand would be heavier yet.<P>But what is the essence of their symbolism these days?<BR>To have and to hold?<BR>Life long commitment?<BR>A never-ending story<BR>writ in forever and a day?<P>These rings mock me, <BR>I heard them laugh from inside the box the last time I took them off.<P>March 29, 1999<BR>
