I know these aren't exactly poems, but I just came across a valentines day card that I had made for my wife last year - back when she still cared for me (or so I thought, after she discovered what romance was like on the internet). I should probably edit out the opening text, but I've always liked the quotes that follow and thought I'd share them with everyone here.
While you may think I've ignored you or shut you out over the years, it was only my way of coping with things I found I couldn't change. The truth is that I've never left you, or strayed from our path together. I'm thankful today to think that the woman I married, though dormant for many years, has returned.
To help you though the coming months and years, here are a few thoughts from others and token of my love to remember them by.
To love without criticism is to be betrayed.
Djuna Barnes
Truth is the only safe ground to stand upon.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton
One of the then quickest ways to feel tired is to suppress your feelings.
<unknown>
Begin somewhere, you cannot build a reputation on what you intend to do.
Liz Smith
There are two ways of meeting difficulties: You alter the difficulties or you alter yourself to meet them.
Phyllis Bottome
You don't choose how you're going to die, or when. You can only decide how you're going to live now.
Joan Baez
For 'twas not into my ear you whispered but into my heart. 'Twas not my lips you kissed, but my soul.
Judy Garland

------------------
Prayer doesn't change things for you - it changes you for things.

[This message has been edited by Stardust (edited June 30, 1999).]
