Restore my soul again

How will I know it when I look in your eyes.
That things will be different, can I get past the lies?
Where do I find the words to say,
our love shouldn’t have turned out this way.
How can I restore my faith, How do I realize.
someday that you might want to try.

How will I know, as I wipe away the tears,
How will I be sure, you’ve dealt with your fears.
Look at what we had, the things we’ve gained.
What can you do to restore my soul again.
Where do I find the strength, how can I realize.
That things can be different, and that I can try?

How can my soul, deal with the pain,
How can I know, that things can be the same.
How did I get here, what have I done.
What did I do, to cause you to run?
How do I restore my soul, how can I realize.
That I can trust again, when I look into your eyes.
Now I am on my own, and I know you are gone,
Do I stand alone, and for how long
Will you find another to hide your fears,
Will you remember all my tears.
Where will you look, when you realize,
Will the love be gone, when you look into my eyes.
I wrote this about 3 weeks later.
2/24/00
Restored

Now you will know when you look into my eyes,
Things are different, I changed, got past the lies.
At last I’ve found the words that were hard to say,
“sorry love, it shouldn’t have turned out this way.”
With each step I take, I now realize.
I can restore my faith and I can survive.
I cried the tears of sorrow over the misdeeds,
Now I realize your fears, can you forgive me?
Look at what we had, the things we gained.
In truth they were fleeting, some full of pain.
But now in God’s strength, I realize.
That things are different but on the inside.
How can my soul deal with the pain?
By being forgiving again and again.
How could I get here? What I have done?
I turned to God and to His dear Son.
See where I found safety to run?
But now I am in Him, restored I realize.
I can trust, have faith, when in Him I reside.

Yes, I am on my own, and now you are gone,
But I don’t stand alone, at least not for long.
You see I’ve found another in which to share my fears,
He calms my heart when I remember the tears.
So now when you look at me, you will realize,
I found the strength when I looked into God’s eyes.
I have written poetry in the past and may need to reach for the "pen" again soon. I empathize with you on your recent separation. I went through a painful separation and then divorce from my husband of 10 years, seven years ago now. Both of us quickly remarried and I have often regretted that we didn't attempt a reconciliation. I am trying to rebuild my current marriage, however, and need to find all the strength I can. Reading poems like yours reminds me that I need to spend more time in prayer. Thank you. May God bless you in the future, and may your wife and you find the peace and happiness you both deserve.

ragston I just wanted to tell you your poem was just the exact words I have been looking for my husband. You seem like a wonderful person. Your poem is beautiful and I have to tell you I cried through the entire reading. Thank you for sharing it.

Wow! Thank you, I can't believe the great response I have gotten. I am glad that so many people have been able to relate to my poems. If somehow my writings can affect your life in a positive way, then its worth all my personal experiences that I have gone through.
Good luck and God Bless!
Rags
