To My Wife: The Look
Our life began long ago
The fun & the laughter is what we did so...
We spoke of marriage and all that it means
We spoke of children, we spoke of our dreams
I "looked" into your eyes & I could see your soul.
I saw love & trust so clearly & whole. There was no need for research, this was not in a book, I could reach our dreams with just your kiss or that "look". Not long after this I commited to you, we sealed with a kiss, to the other be true. A short time goes by & enter the kids, with bottles & diapers & an occasional knee skid. It wasn't long before I knew, that these wonderful children, would be able to see "in you". Through their scrapes & hurt feelings, & even their tears, just one "look" in your eyes, & away went their fears.
Our fun was still there but at a different pace, to see our children playing, brought a smile to our face. Our dreams were coming true, we exceeded our goals, it was because of you & that "look" that you hold.
Now you've made a decision that has changed our life, bringing sadness & tears & a whole lot of strife. I guess although hard, I must understand, that this "look" that you hold, can be seen by any man. What's hardest to deal with, is that you gave it away, the "look" that was ours, the one you showed everyday. To me it was precious, it was our children's & mine, & I pray everyday, it will return in time. The feelings of guilt, selfishness & blame, were feelings I never thought of on the day you took my name. To say you broke my heart, is both understated & true, then I recall the day that I commited to you. I knew life had twists & would be diverse, but I knew that I took you for better or worse. So when you ask why I am staring, know I'm staring at you. I'm trying to look deep for that "look" that's in you.
That "look" that was dear to me, yes our children's & mine, it seems now I have a scrape, I need to know I'll be fine. When my emotions are soaring & tempers flare, remember I'm dealing with feelings I never thought would be there. I know that I love you & I'm doing my best, I vowed that I'd love you til they lay me to rest....
Our life began long ago, the fun & the laughter was what we did so....
I want to live happily ever after with you.
Your Loving Husband
