Here I am in my world –
And there you are in yours.
And both of us pretending
That’s the way that things should be.
Both of us trying hard
… to be gentle, to be kind.
But neither of us saying
What is really on our mind.
Is this, then, how it is?
Is this all it’s meant to be?
Funny, but I how picture
So much more for you and me.
We don’t talk much anymore
About the dreams within our hearts.
Or about how we came to be
So close, yet so apart.
If ever two people should make it,
Then surely you and I.
We were once so strong, so solid
Yet, we’ve slowly begun to die.
I think you saw it first—
T’was your heart that felt it more.
I was simply too in love
To be fearful of the storm.
By the time the thunder sounded,
You had moved so far away…
Yet, still I thought us safe
From the troubles of the day.
By the time I saw the storm
I was too far out to sea.
I had closed my eyes in love
And the tide had carried me.
By the time I saw the danger
And tried to swim to shore,
You, my rock, had moved.
And I was struggling in the storm.
You are still my rock…
My husband, my love, my friend.
And I’m no longer blind
To the storm that we’ve been in.
I am older now, and wiser,
And though I can’t undo the past…
I open up my heart and say
“Please, let us make it last.”
Please let us say “I do”
In a new and deeper way.
Please let us reconnect
Before we lose another day.
Please let us say “I’m sorry,
For the failures of the past.”
And promise a new beginning
For a life, a love, that lasts.
Please let us say “Forgiven”
And to mean it from our hearts.
Please let us say “I take you…
Nevermore to part.”
For when I close my eyes
I still see forever with you.
And I guess that I am wondering
Do you still see it with me, too?
Your poem is beautiful!
It expressed exactly how I feel about my own situation as well. Let's hope that real love will prevail! May the good forces win!
