(Give this poem with a single red rose)
This Rose
Several years ago on a beautiful night
I asked you to become my wife
you said yes with tears in your eyes
It was then I began to cry
you had turned my dreams into a reality
and all I could see in the future was you and me
for I loved you more than life itself
and I did not want to spend my life with anyone-else
we loved each other so deep and within
I knew this love could never end
I know we were young, but I didn’t feel that mattered
I felt that with a love this strong
my dreams would never be shattered
And then one day you came to me
and told me that you wanted to be free
I know you had your reasons
yet I will never understand
why you were not there
when I reached out my hand
I can’t believe you’re going to turn and let me go
just let the story of your life with mine
forever go untold
This rose, that I give unto you
represents so many different things
It’s to remind you of the way it was
and to let you know what the future could bring
this rose represents the love that I have for you
and the thorns of this rose represent
the struggles that we have been through
this rose is a prime example
that even the most beautiful things are imperfect
for it is not what we have
but what we make of it
There is one thing different between this rose and my love for you
THIS ROSE WILL DIE
I wrote this poem over 12 years ago when my wife wanted to call off our engagement. I simply changed the first few lines for it to fit my life today. I wish I had received the same reaction this time as I did the first time she read it 12 years ago. It did not seem to phase her much this time [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Again, I’m glad it helped.
Randy
