He lies behind me.
He holds me so close I can feel his heart beat against my shoulder blade. The steady thump, thump travels down my spine and vibrates my tailbone. His sleepy breath falls warmly on my other shoulder.
When I open my eyes, a tumble of his hair falls into my field of vision-his head rests on mine, pressing it into the pillow.
His arm is thrown around me, the bicep molded perfectly to the curve where waist meets hip.
I lay quiet and listen to him breathe. It is peace.
I etch this moment onto the mental slate I suppose will appear before me as my body dies.
He is my husband.
