Writing has been a Godsend to me while my life has been in turmoil. I noticed there was a forum for poems..so, I thought I would share. :o) Angel

A Shielded Heart

Standing in the shadows of the past
alone amongst the memories of old,
A heart yearning to be set free
yet, trapped in thoughts untold.
Seized within the boundaries of time
forever struggling to change its path.
Yet, darkened silhouettes bind her tight
afraid to go forward in fear of uncertain wrath.
A gentle touch of her hand to his
may be wanted but something else is there.
Each touch seems to burn his skin
alert defenses when she is near.
Trying to tame her worries and fright,
and struggle to untangle thier life
only fall upon his weakened ears
even though she is his wife.
Sheltering his feelings due to pride
allowing only parts to be revealed
wanting to be close to her heart
as long as his true feelings are concealed.
No tender touches dare be felt
for this may warm his frigid heart.
No pleasant words can be heard
for this could shatter defenses apart.
He places guards at every wall
built to protect him tight.
No matter what others my do
right or wrong, he's ready to fight.
Armor is melded to his skin
his heart shielded, his weapons drawn.
In case of an encounter that comes his way,
he can withdrawal till battles are gone.
This is the saddest moment of all
for one day he will find,
that after he has fought his war
the love he lost will be mine.
