This Thing

The world has crashed down around my face
Left without her warm embrace
The arms around that felt so warm
Have now turned cold like the eye of a storm
The times we had, the joys we made
Are gone forever for what I did
I made a monster that consumed us all
A thing that breathed fire and made us fall
Now the eyes I yearned to see
Have turned to anger like the cold sea
I've killed a thing that was once great
Kicked it out and closed the gate
We had the world waiting at the door
In walked the creature, now love's no more
I tried to save us from this beast I made
Not realizing its teeth were already laid
I only managed to make it bigger
With each lie I told, it just came quicker
I've killed the love that was once there
Now all I get is a cold blank stare
Or the flaming anger that I deserve
For making this monster come and disturb
A love so true the angels would've blushed
Now the demons have come and crushed
I begged forgiveness for my sins
But too deep were the teeth laid in
The best thing I've ever had
Now does nothing but make me sad
If to do over it wouldn't end this way
I'd take back all the mistakes I've made
But, alas, too late I've realized my fate
Now all I get is the memory of her face

camel....how I agonize everyday about the decisions I made. If we could just go back and have a do over. I told my wife that I could not change the past(as much as I want too) but I can change the person I was and make the future a whole lot better for us.

Thanks for the poem. It really says a lot about how I feel everyday.
