I sit here on the ground, surrounded by the tricks of my trade. There is a whip that was worn thin, not used in years, but tempting… The satisfaction of the crack of it as it is struck in the air. The harness to guide or control lies limp next to me. In my lap are lumps of sugar, bundles of carrots and a few apples. Somewhere there may be a cattle prod.

In front of me? The animal that I cannot move. The whip cracked to no avail, the harness had not the power to raise him. The apple, sugar and carrots, he snacked on lazily for a while, but they offered no invigorating sustenance.

So, I sit here and think, am I tempting a dead horse? I think I stopped beating it, pulling on it, scaring it before it died. If it isn’t dead, but faking, then what?

I cannot lift it. I can not even inch it along. I cannot coax or trick it.
Do I leave it for dead?

Very nice GG. I too offered my horse apples, carrots and all the goodies. From 6 years of futile attempts, I have come to realize one thing...behaviors can be controlled to a certain extent but feelings can't. With this in mind, I mainly focused on changing my own feelings and behavior instead of the lazy darn horse. Those apples were sooo good, I really enjoyed them myself!LOL We've been separated for 3 months now and divorce is pending. I don't need that horse to get from point A to point B. I've discovered that walking is the best way to keep your heart healthy (-:

Thanks. I don't often try my hand at poetry anymore. I write for work... Junk mail. But just for businesses.

If I could stomach it, I could make a bundle writing GOOD copy for organ enlargement e-mails and porn e-mails. The ones that routinely come across my box couldn't possibly sell anything. Okay, sorry for the vent. Maybe no one will read it!
