If you only knew how hard it was,
to turn away from you.
To tell you that we could be no more,
to tell you we were through.

To hide my feelings behind a screen,
So you wouldn’t see me cry.
As you read the words I’d written
And you asked yourself, “But, why?”

We both have made commitments,
To our spouses, kids, and Master.
To continue down the path we’re on
Would lead only to disaster.

We’d revel in our mortal pleasures,
For a while, anyway.
And then it all would fall apart,
With our families made to pay.

You think because I’ve hurt you now,
That my feelings weren’t sincere.
But, in truth, we both are hurting
Because you are so dear.

I want to hold you in my arms,
But what I want much more,
Is for you to stand with your head held high,
When you stand before your Lord.

So sing your kids to sleep tonight,
Love your husband for a while,
And when you recollect this day,
Don’t hate, but try to smile.
