Well Before Dawn

She tries to rise with me.
I have been promised coffee
and a shower together before work.

So she tries to rise with me.

But she can't.

And that's ok, because the morning air is cold
and her dreams are a thick blanket, warming her.

She watches us dance on a thin beam of moonlight
our breath the dust of an infant galaxy -

stirring, birthing stars.
