A Fool In Love

In the beginning, he was a fool in love.
He felt things for her didn't know he could feel.
People told him he's falling too fast.
But their words meant nothing to him.
For HE, was a fool in love.

In time the love did not seem so foolish.
And people started to see what they had.
Now he would be a fool...to let THIS ONE get away.

This foolish love matured into the strongest, most loving relationship they could ever know.
The critics they had encountered early on replaced their foolish thoughts with the deepest respect for the love that grew so fast before their very eyes.

Soon, his life was filling ever faster with responsibilities and commitments to the beautiful products of their love.
He knew their love was stronger than any obstacles put in its way.
Remember, he's a fool in love.

He was determined to continue the little things he needed to keep their love strong.
But he was a fool to believe what nourished his love for her would sustain hers for him.

Over time, she grew distant.
He foolishly believed in his heart that no matter what the problem, it could not be their love.

Now, he was suffering; trying hard not to lose his everything.
But he was a fool because she was already gone.
Devastated, he realizes his loss and regrets the things he didn't do a thousand yesterdays.

Facing a battle he never dreamed he'd face, he fights for her love with understanding and devotion.
He cannot beg. He cannot demand.
He longs to have her near him, but she's already too far away.
So he talks to her...out of respect for her.
There's so much more he wants to say,
I could talk for days, and days, and days, and days.
Because I am a fool in-love.

This was written in my mind on my first commute back to work two days after my wife revealed her affair. I've never cared for poetic prose before, but I have been suddenly filled with it in this darkest of times.
