A fragile, broken jar of clay
In the Great Potter's healing hands
Because He, too, was once a jar
My plight He knows and understands.
This jar of clay holds nothing well--
The holes allow it to leak out.
It only stays full of self,
Which leaves the sould in a drought.
Wanting to be used again,
To be restored, to be made whole,
The Potter fashions, fixes, and heals;
He ministers to my very soul.
Now the work of emptying starts
So that thee jar may then be filled;
The Potter empties the jar of self
To fill it completely, according to His will
Then He carefully pours into the jar
His love, His truth, His tender grace.
Oh, fill me Lord; fill me full
As I seek Your face!
If I'm full of only You
I will not wander, nor will I slip.
So let me be full of who You are
As I'm anchored in Your grip.
Once I'm full, keep on filling;
Let it overflow.
Let it spill on those I meet,
On those I love, and those I know.
And if they wonder and begin to ask
Just how this jar was repaired,
I can take the opportunity to point ot the Potter
Whose light and life can then be shared.
