I have recently been informed that my wife wants to divorce me and move with our two girls over 700 miles away. My wife claims that I have been emotionally abusive over tha last twelve years and she doesn't want to continue our marriage. I entered into counceling 5 months ago, but she said it was two little, too late. My main concern is how it will affect our daughters. Especially if they can't see their father on a daily basis. I am very close with my daughters and the thought of loosing them and my wife is tearing me up inside. I love them all dearly. Please pray for me.

Slab, it sounds like she feels either very resentful (and wants to even the score) or else very threatened.
I don't know what the meaning behind the 700 miles is - does she have family there?
If I were you, I would try to convince her to wait. Not to give up that decision - because that is her escape - but to just wait two or three months before doing so.
Try not to feel threatened by this decision. I know that's next to impossible, but do your best. The reason I say that is that it hasn't happened yet and the calmer you are, the less reason she has to run from you.
If you have two or three months, you have time to change and to demonstrate the changes. Her heart is probably hardened toward you so don't expect enthusiasm - but she will notice the changes.
If there is any place closer, maybe you can suggest she move to that place. Respect her desire to get away but remind her about the importance of fathers for children. So if she moves 100 miles away, you can't dominate her life but you can see the children.
And ask her how often you can see the children. I think if you're separated, every day is a bit much because it's stressful for your wife. But twice a week might be the answer.
I would try to "sell" the idea of a middle ground that is not so drastic for the kids. Then pray pray pray for changes in yourself to open her back up to you and maybe you'll get your true desire.
Jesus will help you. Count on it.

Tryingtohope,
Thanks for your prayers and words of encouragement. My reference to 700 miles is because we currently live in the Atlanta area and she/we have family in the Chicago area. I've been at my job for a long, long time, but I will leave it in a heartbeat if it's the only way I can see my kids.

quote:
Originally posted by Tryingtohope:
Slab, it sounds like she feels either very resentful (and wants to even the score) or else very threatened.
I don't know what the meaning behind the 700 miles is - does she have family there?
If I were you, I would try to convince her to wait.
