It might seem trivial to some, but I am just so heartbroken I don't know what to do with myself. My most beloved pet is very, very sick. He hasn't eaten for 1 1/2 weeks. He's an unusual animal, so the vets don't know how to treat him - there's not usually anything they can do anyway.
Through the agony of my husband leaving me for another girl, a girl who is much younger than me and not disabled, the one thing that has got me out of bed is my pets. This one is my baby, I'm crying at the thought of him suffering and dying. Please, would you pray that God heals him, or if he's meant to die to let it happen quickly and as painlessly as possible?
Also please pray that God gives me the wisdom to make the right decision, in case I should be getting the vet out to put my boy to sleep. I've had to get a previous pet put to sleep, and I still have nightmares about it.
Evensong

Thank you Thilo,
He's worse this morning, I'm going to try some home remedies I've been told might help a small bit. IF he'll drink them of course, I think there's a problem with his tummy, probably an infection.
God bless you,
Evensong

Oh, I'm so very sorry... and BOY, do I understand how important our furry friends can be. I would be mind-numbingly lonely without my Tess. (She's a cat - no, not *just* a cat - she is a QUEEN!! )
Tell us about him... what kind of animal is he? How is he doing this evening?
Praying for you and your important companion...

Hi New,
I'm sorry, I can't say what type of animal he is, or his name, as it would identify me all too easily to some people.
This morning he's still alive, but hasn't eaten at all. He's the most delightful of creatures, he knows we all adore him and he loves us back. He has this innocent charm that makes you feel all warm inside, and he's intelligent so a lot of fun. When I see him I just have to smile, he's got the cutest face. He tries to please me, even now that he's so sick he makes the effort. He loves listening to music, especially classical music.
I'm spending most of my day with him now, if he's going to die I want to have this time together. It's so hard to see him like this, I pray and pray but of course God does not always do what we ask for.
Evensong

Hi, Evensong, Is it possible for you to force feed him at all? Maybe just some liquids, to keep his strength up so he can heal?
This is so painful, I know. I've watched beloved pets get this sick, too. I'm just so worried about you and your precious boy.
Love & Prayers to you,

Thank you for your prayers, they are much needed. This morning I took him to the vet, in desperation. I found out that if I hadn't, he would certainly have died. Now he has a small chance, but only a very slim one. He's critically ill after some important treatment, and staying at the vet tonight. This will be very hard on him, as in all his 9 years he has never been away from home. The vet said he's very depressed, but it's not wise for me to come visit yet as me leaving again would make it worse.
He was so brave, so very brave and fighting so hard for his life. If he survives the night, and does not naturally eliminate something in his insides he will need an operation. It's a very delicate operation, and he may well die during it or in the 24 hours afterwards.
You know, as much as my husband's continuing affair has hurt me, this overshadows it right now. I can't stop crying and wanting to run screaming, anything to stop this immense worry about my sweet baby. Every time in the past I've left a pet at the vet it has died. My darling has so little chance, I can tell in the vet's voice that he's expected to die.
I don't understand why God is letting this happen, I am at the lowest point in my life. I love God, and always will, but it's hard knowing that He could just heal Shy in a moment and yet He doesn't. I feel like Job sometimes, everything I treasure most being taken away - my health, my husband, my most darling animals.
I'm sorry I sound so selfish, I'm going crazy with anguish over my pet.
Evensong

Evensong, it's not trivial to be worrying about your beloved pet. They truly are the givers of unconditional love. I had to have my beautiful dog put to sleep this morning. He was very sick and there was no other option. I cried all night, then held him and whispered to him while he slipped away. I have cried all day. I know that it was the right decision, but it was gut wrenching. I will pray for you and your pet. Ladysing

No, not silly at all. Very understanable.
I have cried many many tears over lost furry friends.
I made a shrine for my Bo, a great dane who weighed 200 pounds. I put his license, a card I received, a picture of him...
I understand loving a pet!!
I also understand feeling like everything is against you, and how it feels like a "last straw"...
I'm praying...
Please let us know!

Ladysing,
Your reply made me cry, I know what it's like to make that decision. Even though you know it's the best, and only, thing to do, you can still feel guilty and question yourself. The grief at losing such an innocent, loving creature is immense. Their love for us is so pure, our memories of them so uncontaminated by all the negatives that human beings can inflict on us.
Shy is through his operation, but it wasn't really succesful. He's just waking up, I'm to phone back in 2 1/2 hours to see if he's well enough to visit. They were operating for one main purpose, but due to another internal organ being very ulcerated they could not even reach their goal - the opening they needed they couldn't find. The vet said he has a 50/50 chance. He's getting all the support medically he needs to help, but it comes down to him being able to move his bowels naturally.
Please keep praying for my baby, and that I'm doing the right thing.

I was able to spend about 3 hours with my pet yesterday afternoon, I had to leave when the vet surgery closed. He is still in a very critical condition, but I think it comforted him to have me there. I sang to him (each of my pets has several songs that are 'theirs', and they recognize them), talked to him, and just sat there next to him. He's on painkillers, so although feeling ill and weak he's not in pain.
This morning I can go there at 9:00, if he's still alive. He's going to be allowed some liquids by mouth, so I offered to make him some of his favourite treats at the surgery. The vet said that's ok. If he won't voluntarily eat what I offer him, he'll have to be force-fed. Yesterday he was already indicating he was hungry, so I hold out hope. Then it's a wait to see if the liquids pass through him, that's the critical issue.
Thank you for all your prayers, I'm suprised that so many people care enough about an animal.
Evensong

He's gone, he had a quick and painless end. I don't know how I'll go on without him, but I have no choice as I have other pets that need me.
Thank you for all your prayers.
Evensong

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Author unknown...
