I have been dating a man for about 16 months, we have both been saved in the last 7 months, things have changed alot since then, We want to be sure that before we get married it is Gods will for us to be together. We have both prayed and both rec different answers? How is that possible and how do you really know when they are answered? My answer was so strong and I know in my heart and all of this world that I felt it, he says he felt that his is right also. Now when he rec his answer we were fussing a little bit about another girl who came into the picture, he said that he did not have any desire for her, so could that be why he rec the answer he did. We are both so confused and not sure what to do? Please someone answer me! Please send to my email at work shannon@infi.net Thank You Danielle

Hi, It is so good to see you both trying to do what God wants. You have entered one of the more mysterious parts of being one of His children - what is his will in a particular situation where both options are good and holy? One thing is for sure, God does not suffer from Multiple Personality Disorder, so he does not give different answers to people who are praying for guidence about the same thing.
So how do you know then? Well, here is first way -is what you are going to do go against his word? That is a no-brainer. But what about your issue? God will give both of you the same answer. If he has not, then you need to wait until he does. That is crucial, especially when love is involved. Since you are both young Christians it would be VERY good to get some mentoring from older, more seasoned Christians who have been through things like this before. Sometimes our emotions get in the way so powerfully that what we think is God's voice is really our own.
There is a great book called "The One: A Realistic Guide to Finding Your Soul Mate" by Ben Young and Dr. Samuel Adams. You can get it at any Christian bookstore or through Amazon.com. You can read a description and probably read some of the pages at Amazon, too. I strongly suggest you get this before you make any decision, and that you include your friends who know both of you best in the process. If you are close to your parents, include them too. They want the best for you.
You will see my post asking for prayer for my marriage. It is there because I did not do the things I am suggesting, and made a big mistake. Please don't do what I did - I know much better now then when I was so positively sure God told me to marry my wife, when it was really my own voice after all.
[ March 11, 2002: Message edited by: rjd ]

Well i saw a lot of this in the charismatic church. When you meet the right one "You will Know right off" and so will they. That simple. Any doubt from anyone, means its not meant to be. You will not be confused, you will be scared to death and wont be able to run. Marriage is the most couragous thing you can do in life, besides having a child. There are no guarentees, except sorrow. Im just speaking the truth. When your in love you wont be able to hear God thru your soul and feelings. It just doesnt happen. God can even say no very loud and you wont hear it. But dont fret, He already knows the choice you will make and has prepared the way for it. When it all goes south, then you are to stand until God heals. Remember God works out all things for the good of those who love Him. Even our poor choices. Learn to forgive before you marry, is my advice and wisdom. Lostpup
