My wife is studying to be a youth leader. I am just starting to do the same thing. She is fasting for 40 days. It has been 10 and her body is feeling it. I was fasting with her, but i am an automechanic and i moce around a lot, and if i don't eat then i will pass out. Please pray for my wife. I pray for her and i don't eat at home just so the temptation is ther i only eat if i am even hungry at work and that's it. So i am fasting breakfast, and lunch. Please pray for my wife!

Heavenly Father as Christine and Adam fast I ask that you would give them wisdom and direction You want them to take. I pray that You would bring a greater level of intimacy with You into this home. May they know and sense You in a deeper and more meaningful way. Give them the wisdom to fast responsibly and to come off the fast responsibly. As they draw near to You, draw near to them. IJN, amen.
Blessings to you,
knight

brother, I will pray for you and your W. Can I say this, though? There is nothing sacred or particularly signifigant about 40 days. Jesus fasted for that time, but he did not say we had to, or that any more merit would be gained if we fasted for 40 days. I have heard a number of Christian leaders using this number in a superstitious way. Fasting is for us, not for God. It is to help us focus on him and on our spiritual lives, but it does not earn anything, or somehow force God to do something for us. Being like Jesus is not fasting 40 days, but being like him in our daily lives.
I am not judging you, or saying that you are wrong. I am only concerned for your health, and that you don't think you are somehow twisting God's arm by a 40 day fast, or that a 40 day fast is somehow better than a one day, or a one meal fast. We cannot earn anything with God. Jesus died because we are completely helpless and incapable of earning anything. Man, if I knew that a 40 day fast would cure my M problems, I would start yesterday!
Anyway, if you are convinced that this is what God wants, than may he bless you and your ministry.

I happen to agree with Rjd. I hear every easter over in Korea, some christians get nailed to a cross as a symbol of there dedication to the Lord. This life does enough nailing to the cross and in my case I have fasted for weeks because I just couldnt eat from all the suffering ive been thru. I cant eat when my heart is broken. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
If you and your wife are trying to force the Lord for an answer by fasting, it wont work. God answers in His time. My 2 cents worth....

I agree that we do not force God to do anything for us and that there is no superstition in 40 days. But I do on the other hand know that God does bless us in a new way when we fast, Jesus Himself said ...WHEN you fast... and ...after the bridegroom leaves My disciples will fast. I look at fasting as a way to humble myself before the Lord, to put off the things of the flesh to trade for more time with God. Food just happens to be third most important thing for survival, without oxygen or water we die physically, so that leaves taking out food in exchange for more time with God. God also said that he who humbles himself will be exalted and he who exalts himself will be humbled. Keeping that in mind I would rather be exalted by God than humbled, I think we all would, I don't like being humbled by God. Again be educated on the dangers of fasting before going on extended fast like this one, they can be very dangerous...Not to mention that when Jesus fasted for 40 days Satan was right there tempting Him every step of the way.
Blessings to you on your journey,
knight
