tomorrow baby fiddle is going to pre-op for tubes in his ears. he is just about 18 mos. old with a history of ear infects that just won't go away. daddy fiddle and i are more afraid of the anesthesia than the operation. we are praying that the doc will say that because he hasn't had an infect for several mos that the operation is pointless. but then again, is this because he is on Zyrtec everyday? would he be able to get off the meds if the tubes were put in? (they make him more hyper, we think). baby fiddle still does not talk, he attempts but nothing relly formulated. we are not sure whether or not he hears correctly any more. he had been "talking" just before the swarm of ear infects started in January. a prayer for baby fiddle would be greatly appreciated. thank you ever so, lol 2nd

We all will be praying for a healing. That the lord will swoop down and place his hands upon little fiddles ears and restore the attempts at speech and clear infections. The allergy meds may be a thing you learn to deal with but who knows kids do outgrow so many things. Mine had to wear sunglasses and use eye drops because seh would what looked like bllod come from her eyes come to find out it was allergies to the sun...She now is older and just dany as a teen can be anyway. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Having the tubes placed is not an unusual surgery. So, less worry than some surgeries. The tubes presently are probably not allowing the baby to hear well due to swelling. There will be notable relief for the little guy, with this surgery. And then he will perhaps not require the allergy med. Personally I am thankful for allergy meds.!
Prayers are with you and the babe for the surgery.

Think up as many questions you can. Describe the problem you had with anesthesia, and the doc will be happy to talk with you about it. Then you will feel most comfortable. And mostly you need to not let the little baby see you afraid. Have faith woman! It will be ok. You do see the amazing things that medicine has done for children ... of all ages these days. Amazing. The doctors and the nurses, we are so fortunate to have medicine like we have in the US.

Baby Fiddle WILL be going in on July 15 to have tubes put in his ears. there was still fluid behind his eardrums. his prognosis was FAIR should we have opted out on the surgery.
there is more than likely hearing impairment at this point.
Baby Fiddle has been sleeping alot more lately. he is fighting a sinus infection. poor poor cranky little guy. he has no appetite.
being a mommy is hard sometimes. good thing there are 5 older bros and sis that got me and daddy ready for the little tyke.
keep Baby in your prayers, please. i appreciate it.
thanx lol 2nd

I know how scared you are! We did the same thing with 2 of our kids and then went back for tonsils later. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" /> It is very traumatic for the parents!
The tubes made a huge difference immediately. My son could hear us from the other room right after we go home when before he couldn't hear us unless we were right in front of him.
After the tubes fell out we started having problems again with both kids! The doctors wanted to go in and do the adenoids and tubes AGAIN. And then the third child was having problems. We had them all scheduled for surgery on the same day for variations of the adenoids/tubes/tonsils!!! And it was right before Christmas. (Trying to get it all done on insurance before the end of the year). We were getting so stressed out trying to plan it all (it was to be in another town 100 miles away) that we finally said WAIT. The worst thing that could happen by waiting is that we have to pay more out of our pocket because of insurance.
We put it all on hold and started some more natural remedies and let the antibiotices get out of their systems and to this day we have never been back for anymore ear stuff. Antibiotics are very hard on their little systems. They can't fight off anything because the meds are killing their immune systems.
The last doc we saw explained the meds to us and the damage they do and told us that ear infections run their course in 5-6 weeks with or without the meds. So, we started watching and sure enough they did! He also told us to start popping our ears in order to keep the fluid in their ears moving instead of sitting in the tubes. We started chewing a lot of gum and we found a real good recipe for oil (with garlic and natural stuff) to put in their ears and it worked so much better than any meds. We still use it to this day and they are 13,16 and 17!
I understand 100% what you are going through! It is very hard and awful to make the decision to do surgery. You will see great results right away with the tubes. Our last doctor explained that putting tubes in is only fixing a symptom...not the problem and that most of the time the problem is swollen tonsils. When those are removed properly the ears are better able to drain the way they are supposed to. I believe the sypmtom theory because even after the tubes we had the same problems come back so we apparently didn't fix the problem.
Good luck to you!! (No time to proof read...hope it makes sense)

sure did make sense, amd thankyou.
how old were your children when they had the surgery?
Baby Fiddle is on Zyrtec for his allergies. seems to help alot.
my oldest (18 YRS) has horrible problems w/ her ears, all due to the fact that her eustaion tubes were crashed because her lower jaw was too small (family trait). she has had braces etc. and is better now. still a few mild ear infects per year. but no apparrent permanent damage.
Thankyou ALL for you prayers. will keep you posted. lol 2nd
