Yes!!! This is one of the best ideas; my Husband & I (married just 6 months now!)take these little mini-trips- and have ever since we started "doing steady" in our relationship... Our 1st trip was a St. Patrick's Day weekend- we were only a few months into our R, spent the weekend in a remote romantic country B&B, near Durango, Colorado- visited Mesa Verde Indian Cliff dwellings, had a great St. Patty's dinner at a little "hole in the wall" brew-pub/pizzeria, and rode the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on it's Winter Excursion Tour- still lots of snow-- it was so beautiful- and such a romantic trip!!!!! It was during this weekend trip that we fell in love!
A year later- we took almost the same trip- down to Durango, rode the train and stayed at the Historic Strater Hotel in downtown Durango. Only this time- we got married!-- on a stop over high up in the San Juan National Forest, along the Animas River, under a big ol' pine tree..... It could not have been any more perfect!!!
My H had made all the reservations on Wednesday PM while I was at school- even had Chocolate strawberries and champagne delivered to our honey moon suite.... **( we were originally supposed to be going down for the weekend just to pick our wedding site and visit with the clergy- but I had jokingly told him that I wanted to go ahead and get married while we were there- because the site I REALLY wanted- at the Cascades, would not be available for our June wedding date... He took it to heart and made it happen!)***
We still try to take a long weekend at least every 2-3 monthes- with our hectic schedules, family and kids- its great to have even just a couple of days of JUST US.... Keeps us from letting everyday life invade and completely take over our marriage. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I wouldn't trade it for the world...the time I have alone with my sweet H....
