This chapter really hit home for me. I spend so much time thinking about our marriage & his relationship with the OW, I've really neglected to pray about the rest of my H's life.
My H is unhappy with his work. It doesn't bring the satisfaction to him it once did, yet he is still the best at what he does.
Lord, if my H is not in the work position of your choosing reveal it to him and open the perfect door for him. I pray that your will be done in his life so that he reflects your glory. Amen
------------------
Lor
"Do not get tired of doing what is right, for after awhile you will reap a harvest of blessings if you do not get discouraged and give up. (Gal 6:9)

Lor, I seem to have caught your illness and now I am taking antibiotics to clear up a sinus infection and stuffed up ears! Cybergerms?
This chapter is so clear that we should be lifting up our husbands with regard to their work. I often forget how invested my h. is in his career. It has such impact on his sense of self.

Lord, Thank you that you care about our husbands employment. Please lead them in their careers and help us to remember how important their work is to their sense of self. Help me to support my husband in his choice of work and to be his number one cheerleader in a difficult and competitive world. Amen.
------------------
"I have found the Pearl of Great Price"

[This message has been edited by POGP (edited November 30, 1999).]

This chapter covered another area of my resentments toward my H who had/has never held a job for any duration, and has always left it to me to be the responsible party in this marriage.. So I had to back track to chapter 1 and read the prayer for "His wife" again... Geesh this is going to be hard!!
Well, for my H I have to pray that God releases him from the bondage of fear concerning working, and also break the thinking that if the first job God allows him to have isn't the 'right' job, that when the next better job comes along, he's free to move.... He hasn't taken alot of what he considered menial jobs cuz his thinking has him at a 45+ thousand a year position.... I really have to pray that the Lord shows him that Any job from the Lord is a good job... I need to have the Lord impress on my H's mind that if he is faithful with the little things, even when it comes to jobs, he will be given more....
Ya know, I read the first paragraph and went.."Oh my, This Bill character is my H!" I guess rather than getting mad, angry, bitter, resentful or any of the other emotions that I am sooo guilty of, Its time to hit my knees and pray.... Please join me, and I will also pray for you and all of your husbands too...
wannaBcozy!!!

The statement in the book that both extremes (laziness and workaholism) are both based in fear was a real eye-opener. My H works all the time and is somewhat forced into working alot of overtime due to personel shortage. It also use to be a great way of covering up his elicit time spent away from home. I really struggle with this time element.
Cozy, I am ashamed of my whinning when I hear of your situation. I will pray for your H's extreme and seek forgiveness for my fear surrounding my H's work schedule. He has always been a great provider and I know work has been a place where he could receive a degree of esteem as well.
Boy, this book is really cutting to the quick!

Wow, this is moving fast. I haven't really prayed nearly hard enough, long enough on "His Wife."
I have read much further in the book but, not to the point where I have prayed the prayers more than once except "His Wife."
I will have to work like a maniac to catch up. Yikes!
One note husband started new shift at different part of the plant then where affair took place. God answered that prayer for me. It should be good for husbands health too. His back was getting really bad from other job.
I really miss him though. Afternoons is going to be so hard. Our Daughter will only see him on Saturday and Sunday. That will be a drag.
So I need to work on praying for what is best for him. Not what is best for me or us right??
------------------
God bless you and all of us.
Samantha
I am so glad I found this group. I was feeling so alone and now.... so much of what is being written i can relate to!
" he admitted that he started doing all the overtime years ago to avoid being the husband and father he should be." My H said almost the same thing to me. I really felt like he was avoiding me personally when he said it but i am begining to realize he was avoiding himself more than me. So much of what he is going through is his own feelings of failure and now i feel he is just punishing himself for not being able to be the man he thinks he should be.
Lord, Help my husband to forgive himself and continue to help me to learn to shut up and pray!!!!!!!
------------------
morgan

This chapter was helpful in showing me how to pray for my husband to succeed at work. He's not an extreme workaholic, nor is he at all lazy. He picks jobs where drinking is the norm, and is allowed. I'm going to pray for God's direction in his work life. The line in the prayer "if the work he is doing is not in line with Your perfect will for his life, reveal it to him" will be added to my prayers every day. I'll let God do the talking to him about this issue.

I hope you all don't mind if I pop in every now and again. I haven't bought the book - don't know if I can, because finances are not good at this point (behind in a lot of bills).
But your discussions on this chapter have made me feel so disgusted with myself. I've talked on the Infidelity Forum about my contributions to the problems in our marriage. But not supporting him in his quest to change his work is probably the one I am most ashamed of. He once wanted to make something of himself - he had an ambition - and MY fears of ... well, of everything ... made me unable to give him the support he needed. Now that I believe in him and want to support him, he no longer believes in himself... nor, so he says, does he believe in God.
------------------
terri
I believe in miracles...
Yes, this study is moving fast. It's kind of difficult for me to keep up. I just finished "His Work". My H. used to be a workaholic but is much more balanced now. This is an area I really need to pray more for in his life. He needs to understand more of God's calling and purposes for his life.
Help me, Lord, to encourage my H. and pray for him according to your will.

personality profile of me is INFP....
So, I want to fix.... And when he has problems in his job, I naturally can't wait to fix it!!!!! ha! First day of school he wanted me to go to work with him and help him get caught up. Boy, did I see lots of things that I could do to help... I was a Construction Office Manager for many years, and he works in a construction office, so I feel I can help him.... But that isn't the best thing for him! Or me!
God will help him. I pray that my husband finds meaning in the work that he does, and that the work he does gives God the glory. And I pray for my husband's boss's, that they will be given wisdom. And I also pray for the company, that the company would be a blessing to many.
And I pray for my husband's work of his hands, that God would bless his hands to multiply what he does.
I've been praying for my husband's career for quite a while. Couldn't type when I met him, now he types 45 wpm. God gives him favor in his job. AMEN

My H has always been a good provider. Not a work-acholic, always balanced and has had a job which afforded him flexibility.
He went back to school full time while continuing to work full time for his Master's which earned from a top ranked university and maintained a 4 point (OK, bragging). He was away from home 25% of the time for almost two years. To research for his thesis, his company sent him off-site, 5 hours away for another 9 months. During that 2 1/2 year period I was almost a single parent...but I didn't mind because it was a shared goal. Secretly, I didn't think he appreciated my sacrifices enough and I think our relationship slowly shifted from an equal relationship to his time and his career being more important.
After all this work, his company didn't cash in and let him use it. He had a great job, but his degree was getting old. He was disappointed a few times when he was not placed in a position to use his degree. I think this was a minor factor in his affair.
Well, when I got this book in January, I started prayer specifically for his career. Finally in August he was recruited by another near-by company, specifically for his degree. His self esteem was boosted.
I think we forget how many facets of our H's lives affect our marriage.

------------------
Faith, Hope, Love Remain,
but the greatest of these is Love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

Arik has never had a job that he was happy doing or was proud to say he had. He has been working for the same company for 6 years now and recently changed departments. It was at this change that he met OW. He really enjoys the new department and when he first started working there he was so much happier going to work. He said he didn't dread getting up for work anymore. (this was even before he and the OW had a lot of personal contact). I want for him to feel good about going to work. I just wish it was somewhere else.
My prayer is for Arik to find his true vocation in life. Please lead him to this Lord. Help him to find true happiness in the work he does. Help me to be supportive in whatever that vocation may be.
------------------
Love and Prayers
Nicole
