I thought I'd get this chapter rolling. It didn't speak much to me. We've found through the years that we tend to increase our spending as we earn more, but we also have savings and regular contributions to church and other organizations.
I do pray that my husband makes wise decisions with his finances.

------------------
Lor
"Do not get tired of doing what is right, for after awhile you will reap a harvest of blessings if you do not get discouraged and give up. This is a hot topic for me and my H. Money seems to be extremely important to him because he didn't have much when he was young. He makes a good living now but seems to be pretty "tight" when it comes to giving. The problem is, where do I come into the giving process. I handle the finances so I know where all the money is going. If I ask him what he wants to give on Sunday he'll give me a number which doesn't come near to tithing. I do believe in tithing. If I make a big deal out of it we're off and running and in a disagreement over finances. So, I don't say anything. I've just decided that God knows our hearts and he needs to make any changes necessary in regards to tithing.
Anyone else have problems with giving? It is really hard to keep my mouth shut. So, this will be my prayer in regards to finances, God do a work in my H's heart and help me keep my mouth shut!!!!!
------------------
eyes wide open
On this one I have to work on me first... I always see that there isn't enough, rather than, "Its all Gods in the first place" and I end up thinking that IF I give this then I can't pay that.... Gee... If God gave the first amount (and HE gives us All Things) then I think I'd better renew my thinking patterns.... Then I'll go on and pray for others to do right in this area....
cozy

Page 56, last chapter was meaningful to me. My husband does not attribute his good income to God. He spends all he makes and can't figure out where it went. Its very true that wealthy people that do not give to the Lord have unhappy lives. My husband's boss is an example of that. How true the statement "They gain wealth but lose the ability to enjoy it, all because they don't know that the key to life is knowing the Lord and living His way" is.
My prayer here is "give my husband the wisdom to handle money wisely. Help him make good decisions as to how he spends."

This is still too dangerous a topic for my H and I to discuss. He too had it tough as a kid and now is hog wild on "things" to give him significance. But you know, God is hitting our house like ganbusters and moving like crazy! It is so awesome to sit here and see it!
Thank you precious Lord for caring about all the little things and for how you are going to heal our marriage. Thank you for opening my eyes in how I was the discourager rather than the encourager. Bless my husband and help him to feel your mighty presence in such a way that He cannot deny you. Give him your wisdom in finances since everything comes from you. I give you the glory Father, for the changes in our house!

Touchy subject here as well. Arik always wants things. Even more so now that he has denied God. He is always wanting to spend money and then sulks if I tell him we can't afford it right now. We have a very large debt load snd sometimes it is hard to keep up.
I should also add that the OW makes more than 3x/hr than I do and works full time(I only work 23 hours/week). The lifestyle that they could have had with 2 substancial incomes was one attraction to the affair.
I pray that Arik will learn to be more responsible with our money and realize that all the "things" he wants isn't what will bring him true happiness. I also pray that I will better manage our finances so that we can afford to "splurge" once in awhile.
------------------
Love and Prayers
Nicole

[This message has been edited by Patient Love (edited December 08, 1999).]

Everyone,
I needed to pull this thread to the top so I could share the answer to prayer I got specifically. This is truly a work of God because my H has a huge problem with money.(Please read my original post on this thread).
I haven't mentioned a thing about giving and out of the blue he comes up to me and asks if we could have a talk about tithing because he has alot of questions. You could of knocked me over with a feather. God is indeed doing a work in his heart if he wants to instigate this conversation.
Please continue to pray for my H concerning this because I feel it would be a real surrender of his will to begin giving monetarily to God as he should.
Thank you Lord for this new sighting of you at work in my H's life. Help me to SUAP like I am suppose to and leave this work of conviction in your hands. I pray that the year 2000 may be the beginning of my H seeing that his money is really a gift from you.
