The last few days have been calm emotionally. Today, however, W spent the first half of the day in our bedroom with the door closed, crying. I gave her the s p a c e she's been asking for by not asking what's wrong or acknowledging her crying in any way except to sigh (a kind of I-wish-I-could-help-you-but-you-want-your-space sigh). I just went about my business. Took the kids shopping for her birthday, ran some errands, stopped to pick some flowers from the side of the road for her at my son's request. Did some yard work. Talked with the neighbors, etc...
In response to my new independence/avoidance technique W has initiated more conversations about the kids and other stuff. She even floored me today by talking to me about some positive things which were happening with her job.
Am I seeing light from the end of the tunnel? (Or, is it an on-coming train? [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] ) Oh, I know that this process is filled with three steps of progress followed by two steps back so I don't put too much stock into the events of two days. But, I've had nothing but "two steps back" for weeks. It's nice to see a little progress even if it's short lived.
God bless all of you. Have a great weekend!

Glad to hear the progress.
You are right, don't be discouraged if you go back and forth.
And I'd say crying may be better than icy anger.
Crying may involve grief...so maybe she is grieving her losses in the other relationship. Who knows?
------------------
Faith, Hope, Love Remain,
but the greatest of these is Love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

Let's hope. Although today, the anger seems to have returned moderately. Tomorrow is her birhday, I'm sure that's playing havoc with her emotions right now. We "celebrate" today at her sister's house. I got her a neclace. It is hard to know whether to crowd her space by giving her a gift or to reinforce her idea that I don't really love her by not getting a gift. I thought it would be better to invade her space.
