Well, I posted about getting offered a new job. I turned in my two week notice Monday afternoon. The look on my bosses face was priceless [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Today, I was notified that I needed to pick my D up from school, because they think she has pink eye. So I Paged my Boss to let them know that I needed to leave work for a while to pick her up and take her home. When my boss called me back, they were in their bosses office, and had me on speaker phone. They have decided that this Friday will be my last day. They are not allowing me to work out my full notice.
So, after I picked my D up, and my W brought me back to work, I called the state labor board to ask them about my notice. . . The labor board informed me that once I turn in notice, my employer can ask me to leave at any time, and they do NOT have to pay me through my notice. In otherwords, I am out a weeks pay. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
I know there is nothing anyone here can do about this, but it just made me so mad, I wanted to vent.
God Bless

ES:
Been there, done that. It does suck, but keep it in perspective. A very minor annoyance that you'll quickly forget about at your new job.

Heeeeeey ES,
For everything that you and hopeful have been through I would give my right.... well never mind, but, I would'nt sweat the weeks pay. What you have now is more important than all the money in the world. REMEMBER THAT.
Only wishing I was in your position, well maybe someday. Thanks guys -- You know, I actually expected them to do this because they have done it to others before. It just burns me that for 2-1/2 years I have been more than trustworthy enough for them, but when I choose to leave, then I'm have the plague or something. It just isn't professional.
God Bless

ES:
There's no law that says you have to give 2 weeks' notice. For future reference, if you have a job where the animosity between you and your boss is high, you probably should just wait until the day you're leaving and then just resign effective immediately.
Let me ask you this: Do you have any unused vacation time, sick time, or other paid leave? If so, they HAVE to pay you for it. If you've got five or more days of unused paid leave time, then don't worry about not getting to work the last week, you'll get paid for the vacation time. Check with your new job and see if you can't start earlier. It is worth a try. I know with all the financial problems you are worried about losing that weeks pay, so give it a try.
------------------
di

Lone Star -- My friend, thank you. I have about 4 weeks vacation/sick time on the books they have to pay me for. The money isn't really the thing that bothered me about all this. I guess I just feel that if I was professional enough to go out of my way and give them a full two weeks notice, then they should have been professional enough (or have enough common courtesy) to allow me to work out my notice. I mean after all, they trusted me enough for 2-1/2 years, but now that I have given notice, all of a sudden I am untrustworthy. It's just frustrating.
Sheba -- Go Xena !! [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] I don't know, maybe I'm just old school, but to me their behavior is very unprofessional. You know, if I didn't KNOW that it would ruin any chance for a good reference in the future, I would send out a company wide (6 states worth) E-Mail advising everyone to simply quit without notice on my last day. On second thought, that would be lowering myself to their level [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
SDS -- Unfortunately, my start date with IBM was based on the "next" training class they had scheduled, so I will just have to put up with spending a week with hopeful and our D [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Thank you everyone for letting me vent to you.
God Bless

Hi, ES. Enjoy your week off. I'd be annoyed, too, but I can't think of anything better than to have a week to enjoy your lovely wife and d before starting a brand new adventure.
Y'all have fun!!!
[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]

Lori

ES:
Yup, you're right! It sucks. If YOU leave, you're expected to give 2 weeks notice. But if your company decides they don't want you, it's "Get a box. Get your stuff. Get out!"
There IS one good thing about having given 2 weeks notice, even though the bast... uh... BOSS doesn't deserve it. When you go to the the new interviews, it makes you sound more considerate--maybe even loyal?
At least you won't have give the potential new employer a reason to throw your resume in the round brown file! [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Good luck. Remember, it's THEIR loss, not yours.

lostva -- That is exactly what I am going to do. Enjoy our time together. Thank you.
Doug -- You really made me laugh, thank you. The only problem is that my boss is female, so I am afraid that you were starting to use the wrong word. You're right though. It is THEIR loss, not mine.
God Bless

Have to put up with me and our D????? Don't make it sound like it's torture or something, I'm not that bad and our D will be in school. You can sleep in. Putting up with me isn't that bad, or is it?

Don't forget the salmon and the counseling sessions with Dazed and Confused. We may need that vacation time to pay for those sessions don't you think?

Sheba and hopeful -- Now wait just a minute ladies, I try and make a funny, and you guys start threatening me. And you're ganging up to boot. Now that's not fair. I'm going to go sit in the corner and pout now. Boo Hoo. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
new_beginning -- Thank you for your confidence. We have survived a lot of garbage and I really think we are ready for a break for a change. I really am looking forward to the new job though.
God Bless
