This week we had the settlement conference... what fun. It doesn't look like she plans to come back any time soon and I have taken over the task of writing the checks for the household... I've always paid the bills but now I have to sit down and write out the checks.
Anyone using a online banking service or a software program that they would recommend for managing the household finances?
TIA,
T2

T2,
When my W left,I hadn't balanced a checkbook in years(she is an accountant). What I found that helps is to write checks only for mailing bills, and large purchases, and pay cash or use a Visa card(and pay off at end of month)for everything else.It makes that checking statement a lot easier to balance.I also have automatic withdrawal for my mortgage, car payment, and car insurance so I don't need to write checks for those.I'm sure you'll discover more tips as you go along.I just bought Quicken 2000 Deluxe and will try using it for my checking account. If you go the quicken webpage ,you'll find more info on their software, plus lots of other financial information.Have fun. --Murph

[This message has been edited by Murphy (edited March 18, 2000).]
[This message has been edited by Murphy (edited March 18, 2000).]

Thanks for the advice... I will try to automatically debt as many bills as I can and I just ordered Quicken 2000 Deluxe from http://www.buy.com for $46... The Quicken web page looks impressive. It is my guess that the initial set up time is nontrivial, however, after it is set up initially it should be time saving and an efficient way to manage the finances.
Cheers,
T2

T2,
Quicken2000 has checkfree included in the software so that you can pay your bills electronically. I am in the process of letting checkfree go as I transition to internet banking with my bank now that it is free for me. Checkfree allows you to set up the payment the day you get the bill to arrive on the due date.
I have been using checkfree for about 5 years. Before that I was using Billpay on Prodigy because of price. As times change rates change. So I am moving where I do my online bill payment (in my case.)
------------------
God Bless,
Rob
regilmor@swbell.net

Rob,
Do you think paying your bills on-line is completely safe, yet? I keep reading these horror stories about hackers getting into people's bank accounts.I have bought a few things like books on-line with my Visa, but not sure about paying all my bills that way.If I felt it was fairly fool-proof,I think it would be great.I just got my Quicken installed recently, and balanced my checking account. My bank has also offered on-line bill paying, but I'm still leery.Any advice would be appreciated. --Murph
