Heya'll!
Happy Happy long weekend for those of you who have it. I think we need some positive happy thoughts on the board [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
What are some of your favorite summertime activities?
I love having friends over for a bbq, drinking some beer or wine and sitting around as the sun goes down talking or playing cards.
I love sitting outside in the afternoon reading a book and completely zoning out the world while soaking up the sun.
I love walking at night after the sun has gone down and it is a bit cool but still nice out, looking at the moon and the stars and being amazed.
I love watching it storm, the thunder the lightening, the cleansing affect of the rain. The smell of rain in the air when you can see the storm clouds building on the horrizon. The electricity and excitment in the air as you wait for the first raindrop to fall.
I love spending a day at the lake, laying on a dock, doing absolutely nothing. No world to interfere.
I love that I have to literaly scrub my childrens filthy feet every night. That tells me they are also enjoying summer the way it is suppose to be enjoyed.
I love sitting in the stands and watching my oldest daughter play softball and love even more helping coach our middle daughters team. I love seeing the pride and joy in their faces as they round the bases towards home. I love the look in their eyes when I congratulate them on a great hit and tell them how proud I am of them.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and get a chance to do some of your favorite things. Most of all I hope you have a moment or two where you are thankful you are alive to experience that moment, regardless of what is happening in the rest of your life.

------------------
Cat
catfrommb@yahoo.com
Laughter is harder...Friendship is stronger..Trust is deeper...when it comes from the heart
[This message has been edited by Caterpillar (edited May 26, 2000).]

Beautiful post, Cat... it is always nice to take a step back and look at all the beautiful things around us!
What do I love about summer...
Watching my roses bloom and getting drunk on their rich fragrance (this is my first summer to enjoy them, but certainly not my last)
Spending a long day at the amusement park
Having a cookout with good friends and homemade beer
Watching thunderstorms; smelling the ozone from the lightning, seeing and hearing the crackle and boom, smelling the hot-rain smell, feeling the sudden rush of cool, damp wind
Just sitting on the deck and looking around at the backyard of our first home - the old apple tree grown up with ivy, full of birds taking advantage of the feeder; the new young trees we've planted; the lush perennials filling the beds with green; the bright annuals showing their colors; and of course the roses!
Walking in out of the 95-degree, 100 percent humidity into the air conditioning!
Watching the Cleveland Indians on TV, or better yet sitting in the stands
~Lori~

Cat.. Great Idea! I could have written what you did word for word, exchanging the Baseball for Basketball...
I adore the storms... the lightening....
and the thunder... that brings the children running to our bed to all snuggle up closely and giggle and talk...
I love watching the proud smiles on my boys faces when they make that almost impossible shot over that kid who is 2 feel taller than them in their basketball games...
I love watching the girls dancing in the front yard to their music... The children riding their bikes and playing in the sprinklers... and the sleepouts...Their laughter and smiles are priceless...
The bee stings and scraped knees that mommy gets to kiss better... The drive-ins and cardboard pizza they serve...
I love to lay in the back yard under the huge walnut tree which has a natural face in the trunk... that watches and protects our home...
I adore listening to the little owl who has made his home in the beautiful orchard behind our home... hooting as if he is trying to say something to me...
I love to breathe in the wind that carries the smell from the lake... Ahh.... it smells like summer....
Packing up the car until we can barely fit into it and heading off to the lakeside condo where we spend a good week every summer on the beach...
I even love the sound of the ice cream truck who parks in front of my house until everyone of my children stop what they are doing and run to stop me from shooting out his tires so he won't come back... (kidding)
The way my heart swells knowing that the graduation of my oldest son is happening in less than a week... He made it.. and I know that I did a great job of raising him... I am so proud... of all of them...

[This message has been edited by Lacee (edited May 26, 2000).]

Cat: Great idea!
From memory, I enjoyed the smell of the four-o-clocks while sitting in the backyard with my grandparents as they chatted away in Spanish.
My kids and I listening to a free concert in the park with a cooler packed with food and drink.
Watching my kids playing in the park fountains with other kids.
Going with my girlfriend to a school carnival and riding rides to the music of CCR's "Up and Around the Bend" YEAH!!!
Today: Reading a good book on the porch, taking a nap in backyard with a warm breeze blowing my hair, running after my grandchildren, listening to my children debate over who got it the worse, hearing my spouse rattle about his day when he does talk.
Have a great weekend!

Hi cat [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Good topic. Something that let's us think about pleasant things.
The first thing I think when summer is getting closer is : CAMPING!!!!!!!
we all enjoy it and it's one of our favorite activities.
Just the four of us and our dog, hiking for hours, seing beautifull things, listening to the wind, sitting on a rock... great!
Or taking the canoe and go for the weekend, seing our little one trying to paddle like a pro.
Barbeques with friends used to be one of our favorite things. Now since ILs are the ones on the apartment on the ground floor, they have the backyard, and since we don't really associate much since the affair, we don't go there at all.
Swimming and riding our bikes is another thing we love.
Go for a walk at night, without any specific destination and not worrying about sleeping time for the kids feels great.
laying down on the grass, reading a book or doing crosswords.
I love summer!
But what I love most is that school is out, no work untill september LOL
hugs to all, and enjoy your summer!
Kat
------------------
Each and everyone of us is deserving of a kind word, a gentle thought, and the gift of understanding.
[This message has been edited by Kat1 (edited May 26, 2000).]

What a great idea, Cat.. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Fav part about summertime..
I'll join in with everyone else when I mention those awesome bbq's..hubby really can bbq (why is it that men can bbq so well??, I've never been able..)
Fireflies..I just love 'em...(used to collect them in jars when I was a kid, but didn't like it so much when I was running quickly playing tag with the other kids and swallowed one)
Tubing down the river in one of those inflatable rubber tubes that have a bottom to it, cooler of beer in it's own tube..
Picnics at the beach when we get to go, our girls and H and I building sand castles..
Eating tomatoes and other veggies from the garden (agree with ya, kam)..
Jogging at 6 a.m. with hubby watching the sunrise and smelling the honeysuckle..
Badminton in the backyard every night that the mosquitoes aren't biting after a cookout..
And this summer I've decided to re-live my youth a little, maybe running through a sprinkler or a slip-n-slide and doing stuff that I used to when I was a kid..we should all try to do that, keeps us young..
