Marriage itself isn't painful, any more than any other type of relationship. It is people who cause pain, because, unfortunately, we are all only human.
At its best, marriage can bring the people involved many good things: love, security, companionship, and so much more...that is why folks are willing to risk their hearts, even though the outcome is not guaranteed.
Just my 2cents...
Kathi

I think in this world of instant gradification people lose focus on what is important...I believe the most important aspect that keeps relationships together is commitment to one another....we fall in an out of love many times in our relationship...once committed a couple has got to stay true to each other...that is of course hard when we have so many outside influences that can create havoc between two people...respect of fidelity is long gone as we of this country begin to accept the ideology that we no longer have one partner for life...it hurts those who long for that and the children who witness it...maybe my W and I can work it out....maybe not....know one wins and everybody loses...especially those who love the most...so i guess you lose a little piece of yourself and your heart and try again...

You haven't said why you think they did.
However, many marriages look good to all outsiders and yet lack the togetherness. I don't think it's about the vows after all. I think it's about the voluntary blending of two lives. If done right, and thank God for someone like Harley who has shown us the basic principles, it can be wonderful!!
This has brought up a question for us. Could we stay together just till the kids grow up if we can't blend our lives?
No.
We would just be postponing (with all the right intentions) the pain to our kids.
We must make it work for ourselves!!!
And we are convinced if we can't make it work for us, we can't do it "out there" either. We must and we will.
