Has anyone been on Prozac? How'd it work for you? Is it a good one to try?

Momma,
I know this isn't what you were asking, but I've stayed away from the drugs. In the worst of the pain when I seriously thought of ending my life, I still stayed away.
I know many on the board do use them and I'm not judging.
I just think I would be treating the symptom, not the cause. The pain has gone as I've been finding the love at home. I know you feel tortured, but on the other side, this was the MOST painful thing I have ever experienced and I've known pain. I was abused as a child for many years.
When my little ones have a fever, I rarely give them Tylenol, unless it is dangerously high. Why? They would run and play and forget they are sick. They need to change what they do, and rest so they can heal.
We all need a chance to heal and IMHO drugs can truly delay that healing. Just my .02.

Hi Momma,
Prozac has been a Godsend for me. I have been on it for many years due to a panic disorder, and it changed my life.
What it does...is just clears the brain. It helped me think logically. It will not change your personality, or make you feel wonderful all the time, but for me it helped me get over the panic disorder by just kind of un-muddling the way I think and also helped me with obsessive thinking and behaviour.
I know a drug is not the be-all, end-all, and I know it's a controversial subject, but I just wanted you to know that it helped me live a normal life, after years of fighting irrational fears.
I did gain weight on it, and it does kind of mess up the stomach a bit, but it was worth it to me.
It's worth talking to your Doc about. There are a lot of different anti-depressents now, and maybe if Prozac isn't the one for you, you could try something different. I'm hearing good things about Zyban too.
I've read your posts, and you are obsessing quite a bit about OM. Maybe it could help with that. Hope so.
allison
Prozac is an SSRI and can wipe out your libido totally and make you anorgasmic to boot. There are better SSRIs, check out Wellbutrin or Serzone, which doesn't have these awful side effects. See www.depression.com for more info.
Bystander

Oops!
Bystander is right, I forgot about that side-effect. Not that a whole lot of the sex thing was going on around here anyway! (LOL)
Yep, there are better SSI's out now...still, talk to your doc and see if theres on you can try out.
Hi Momma...how are you doing today? Tough few days for you lately! At least you're being honest with yourself...I admire that.
As far as Prozac, yes, I tried it for a few years. I hated that I lost, and I do mean lost my sex drive. That, to me, is not worth it.
You might want to read the thread I posted asking help from anyone who's tried Wellbutrin. There are some really great, informative responses in there. I'm certainly searching for something as well. I do feel depressed, and very anxious since all of this stuff came out. Though I'm not certain I want to do anti-depressants, I'm still reseaching.
I'm into day 7 with no contact...and it's getting a little easier, but I still think of OM every day. I completely understand how TS feels, like swimming without "swimmies."
Hope you're having a good day....
Hi, Wings!
I'm doing some research, too. A friend of my friend told me about Prozac (he's a drug rep. & PA), that's why I asked. I started taking St. John's Wort again, so hope it starts kicking in. I probably don't need anything else, anyway. Like Schizzo said, it really just masks the problem anyway. But it'd sure be nice to think with a level head!
I'm doing alright. I know this sounds awful, but I always feel so happy when I get to talk to OM. He just brightens my day. (Please no flames on this, I know it's not right.) The guilt is what's so hard for me. So I have those mixed emotions going on. I know I'm wrong, but I'm not doing much to correct the situation.
I'll be gone this weekend, but I'm sure I'll be back here on Monday.
I am doing some hard thinking and soul-searching. Thanks for checking on me! I'm thinking about all of you and pondering your statements. I have been on Prozac for about 4 years and Buspar for about 2 years. Both have been helpful for me, but the sexual side-effects are real. Probably helped contribute to my H having an affair. It's not something I could help though. I started taking Prozac for migraine headaches and it worked really well. Sex seemed like a minor sacrifice compared to debilitating migraines. But look where I am now. If you can get an anti-depressent without the sexual side-effects (Wellbutrin is one) then that's the way I would go. I wish I had known about this when I started taking Prozac. Now I don't have to worry about the side-effects. I don't have an H anymore. ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif)

------------------
Blessed be.
****************
Keridwen
Keridwen_7@yahoo.com

Momma...you certainly won't get any flames from me. I can so relate to how you feel it's unreal. My only restraint is that OM hasn't contacted me, or I'd probably be in the same boat as you are right now.
I'm rooting for you girl. I have gained so much from what everyone is writing to you....
I know you're struggling big time... I wish as NoMas said there was a "magic wand" we could just wave and end this pain. I've never felt such turmoil in my life.
So you keep right on writing to us...we're here for you...your lifeline if you will! I used to think OM was my lifeline, but I can't go there anymore...it's simply too painful! I so completely understand the high you feel when you talk to him too. Man, that's a tough one.
We're right here with you, Lady!
I know I don't have any words of comfort, but at least you know you're not alone here!
