My Motherinlaw is coming next weekend, and I don't know how to react to her. At xmas my MIL wrote a very nasty note, trying to make my H and I and the kids feel guilty for spending some of our holiday time with my side of the family , she was being so unreasonable and she said some very nasty things about me and basically wrote us off. She also wrote a little letter to my 10 year old daughter which thank god I found and tore up, I could not believe she would try and play mind games with her. Well, months later in April I made my H phone her, she had tried to call a few times but we both never answered, I made him call b/c it was really bothering him and I couldn't take his mood b/c of it anymore. He was ready for a big talk with her and she acted as if absoloutely nothing happened. I talked to her for the first time a couple of days ago since xmas, again she acted as everything was just peachy keen. I can't pretend that she didn't say those things and now she is coming up to pick up my daughter to take her camping (which I don't really want her to do b/c she plays mind games with my kids, but what can I do) and her and my father in law are staying a few days before they go. How do I treat this, should I just pretend nothing happened or should I say something to her. I am still furious with her and I don't know if I can sit there and pretend everything is okay. My H won't say anything he just is pretending nothing happened.I have contemplated going away on the weekend with my girlfriend so I don't have to deal with them. Any advice?

Fed up,
Hey I don't know about you but I don't think I would start anything before she left with your daughter. In fact, I would go along with it until it was over just in case. She's is probaby soing those things in attempts to control you. Tearing someone down in an effort to build oneself up is a game for the weak.
However, if your daughter has no big desire to go then I would probably try to discourage her going with them. I guess it really depends on your comfort level with the whole situation. Many may think I overreacting but IMHO, you never know what kind of seed they'll plant in your d mind. Will it foster negative thoughts of you. Remember these seeds grow into trees.
As far as leaving for the week-end, no way! Just gives her more control over your household.
I hope you do confront your MIL in the most loving and mature manner ever! That childish behavior needs to stop!
Tess
