Van posted where he felt people in sales type jobs might be more likely to have affairs and it got me wondering. What is the career of your spouse and the OP? My H is an exec in the financial field and OP was an office temp.
I did read a book once "Men Who Stray" or something like that, can't remember. It listed the top jobs for male cheaters. The ones I can remember were: Doctor, Musicians and Entertainers, Pilots, Politicians, Professors. They listed the top 20 and these were at the top. Of course they also listed professions LEAST likely to cheat and my H's was one of them. Go figure!
[This message has been edited by fairydust (edited July 21, 2000).]

Hmmmmmmm...
Well, xH was a foreman for a crew of men that repaired fiberglass windblades out of state.
OW was a temp in the managers' offices.
Funny though, I met one of his crew members about 2 years ago (post divorce), the guy was amazed that I stuck with xH for any amount of time. Told me things that made me ill (about *work* escapades out of state). Apparently xH cheated whenever and where ever he could. Only reason he settled w/ OW is because of OC, and the huge inheritance she recieved upon the death of her aunt. Nice, eh?
Mynabird
P.S.--- prof. of married men that came on to me: nurse, doctors, musicians, car salesmen, firefighters, policemen, and one electrical engineer. Lots of the cheating jerks out there. I don't think career matters one bit. Lack of values might, though.

OM and I were both in computer support. We were equals in the same office, who sat next to one another- we shared a cubicle.

If I may throw in my 'two-cents' here...
I don't think "WHAT" they do for a living really matters. It's "WHO" they are that does. "They" are human beings with weaknesses and...a sinful-human nature. Anyone of us is prone to failure. If not in this area, then possibly in some other area.
Not all humans "cheat" on their spouses. Thank God for this. But I would be careful of refering to all of them as "jerks". If I have seen one thing, it is this...folks with a self-rightous attitude who think it would never happen to them...are just as prone to stumble in this area as well.

Nomas,
I'm not sure if you were refering to my post... about jerks. I said, "Lots of *cheating* jerks out there." I did not say "all men" or even "all humans."
You may think it is self-righteous, but I stand by my opinion that ppl who *cheat* are jerks, human weaknesses or no.

I agree No Mas, anyone in any profession can cheat. Men don't seem to care too much what a woman does but there are certain professions that attract women to the men like magnets. I used to live with a musician and trust me, finding one that doesn't cheat is like finding a needle in a haystack! Men in certain professions tend to cheat more because the opportunity is there more often. My friend's H is in administration at a large hospital. He said that at LEAST 80% of the married Dr.s are having affairs that he knows of. Mostly with nurses. I think lots of opportunity + ego tends to equal trouble.

Hey Fairydust...
My H is a Musician and has been for the last 28 years, never done anything else. BUT .. he just landed a job with the City, whoo hoo!

The OW is a Welfare recipient and also hosts Kareoke under the table ($100 /night). Now wait a minute ... that doesn't sound quite right does it .... how can she collect Welfare but be able to work in Bars no less, hmmmmm.
Can you say "Welfare Fraud"?
Jo
[This message has been edited by Resilient (edited July 21, 2000).]

"...folks with a self-rightous attitude who think it would never happen to them...are just as prone to stumble in this area as well."
Yes!, and I'm a perfect example of this bit of wisdom. I grew up in a large family of "cheaters", wanderers and too many divorces. I swore because of the painful elements of my childhood, "that I would never, *could* never." Sometimes, and sadly, words are just words.
Interesting question. Don't think profession played a great role in my affair, except that I went to college with, and stayed in touch with OM through the years. Both of us elementary education teachers.
H is a computer engineer in the military, and his OW is as completely opposite from me as one could imagine - she works in the field of computer technology.
Delilah
