I haver been on Paxil for a little over 2 years now.Every since the affair was discovered.
I found at first this medication was my lifesaver.As of about the last 2 months or so I have fallen back into a bad depression and can't seem to shake it.I'm not sure if it's because of things going on in my life right now or if the Paxil has just stopped being effective for me.I don't know if this happens or not but it sure has felt like it.
Are any of you on any antidepressants other than Paxil that are helping you through this?I have had virtually no side effects from Paxil and it makes me nervous about switching to something else.
If any of you could help I would appreciate it.Thanks.
Tammy
------------------
~~~~~Tammy~~~~~
If you love somehting set it free.If it comes back it is yours.If it doesn't it was never meant to be.
I am not not sure about Paxil, but many medications to tend to reach a plateau where the effectiveness may not be what is was when U first started taking the med. There are many different types os AD meds out there (I know I've tried several) each can have varying levels of effectiveness from person to person.
I have used; Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, and another that i can't remember the name. For me Effexor worked the best, and had the least amount of side-effects.
Possibly changing to a drug that works differently within the body might do the trick.
Zoloft and Prozac are Seratonin reuptake inhibitors, Effexor is in a different class of drugs than these. Don't know how Paxil works, sorry
Hope this helps [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Jason
Hi Swttmy,
Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft are all known as SRRI (as unseen2 listed) antidepressants. They're all basically the same drugs and affect the seratonin levels.
I have been taking Wellbutrin since discovery in February. I have often joked in the past that my husband has the meds to thank for still being alive. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
Wellbutrin works differently than the SSRIs. It effects dopamine, seratonin, and something else I can't remember at the moment. There are a few classes of antidepressants, and if yours is no longer working, you can speak to your doctor about switching.
My Wellbutrin has a tendency to have peaks and valleys. I find it effective (with my pharmacist friend's approval), to take 1/day for a couple of weeks, then up it to 2/day for another couple of weeks. It can really help. Of course I don't recommend this without first speaking to a professional.
------------------
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. My wife was in Prozac for some time and now is taking one of these capsules a day; I take 2-3 in the morning and 2-3 at night, sometimes also in the middle of the day. Some traditional doctors say that it doesn't really work, but it does for me (maybe placebo effect? Medic could be of some help). I am referring to "ST. JOHN'S WORT", the brand I use is "NATURE'S FINGERPRINTS" and you can buy it over the counter in any GNC Drugstores or similar.
ThisAlex
------------------
If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about Trust and Awareness.
