My MIL and I went to lunch Sunday afternoon, then a little trip east of town to the first house she lived in as a child, now a museum.
She indicated a couple of weeks ago that my W may not appreciate us hanging out together. (MIL is 79, slightly disabled.) I am occasionally called so I can drive her out to eat. Sometimes I just go over (she lives a mile away) and visit. Mil's response was "Oh well, I don't care if she doesn't like it."
I do not discuss my feelings about our situation anymore, enough has been said. My intention Sunday was to learn local history from her since her own mother was born to pioneer parents in this area.
Did, or would, this type of relationship make a difference in reconciling..., of the friendship with the in-laws kept up in a positive way?? I mean, if I continue to have a civil relationship with her family, is this going to be a huge blockade??
I really do not see my MIL as doing anything for revenge though she feels very hurt by her daughter's actions. I can see that she cares for my W as much as I do. My MIL was the first, two weeks after the seperation, to tell me NOT to give my W a divorce.
Gotta run but I'll check back.
rrunrr

------------------
Almost anything can be undone or forgiven.

Wow, I think it's great that you have such a good relationship with your MIL. I don't know how it will affect your relationship with your W, but I don't think a good relationship with your MIL could hurt.
My H is very nice to my parents, and that makes me feel good - that he likes them and vice versa. I wouldn't worry too much about your relationship with your MIL - I think it's nice.
