One of the terms of our separating was that she would have enough money for her needs, but that she would refrain from a massive shopping spree. As a protection, I have transfered debt from a home equity line of credit to my credit card so that she only has access to the checking account and a small overdraft portion.

When she found out she would be coming back, she managed to drop $700 in a single day as "gifts" to her family. $200 to her brother whose wife just left him. $200 rent for her sister who's about to get married. $300 for bridemaid dresses for her sister's wedding. There's a part of me that wants to be stern and say, "You violated the terms of our separation and you still aren't back yet." But, then there's that part of that is like, "It's time for Plan A, forgive this, maybe they'll actually pay you back."

Maybe she is testing you. What would you typically do? Would you blow up? You might want to remind her of the agreement that you had and leave it at that.

She might be doing things for others to feel better about herself.....

It is a violation of your agreement and should be addressed with her....but....on another private thought....did you ever think that she might feel inferior by having to check with you about all her purchases...if she doesnt work and youdo and your the breadwinner.....if you hold that over her head....its almost inevitable for her to feel less about herself by not providing for the "family". Id say...address it...get the answers you need....and let it go....a small price to pay for what your striving for... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
