Doug Holtam murdered his pregnant wife & his six-year old daughter, as well as brutally assaulting his young son (who survived the attack) with a hammer. The boy, now 10, survived after undergoing neurosurgery and being in a coma for two weeks. Thankfully he has no memory of the brutal assault or of the murders of his mother and sister.<P>The evidence against Holtam is irrefutable. Bloodstains on his shirt, the confession, love notes to OW (Shannon Goddard)... Holtam killed his pregnant wife & young daughter, and tried to kill his young son to "prove his love" for Shannon Goddard. Holtam claimed that it was "love at first sight" for Shannon Goddard and that he had to get rid of his family as they were in the way of his happiness. Holtam repeatedly told others that the "sex was good" [with OW] and that needed the insurance money [from the killings] to start a new life with OW. Holtam himself said the murders (and attempted murder) were "nothing" and that he went to work right afterward and behaved as if nothing had happened. Holtam said he committed the acts because he was "bored with life." Holtam laughed as he related how he murdered his pregnant wife & daughter & tried to kill his son to the undercover police officer he confessed to... Holtam's confession was willingly made on videotape to police. Of course he now denies having committed the murders & assault...<P>OW said she was "shocked" to hear that Holtam had been charged and had confessed to the crime, but that she loved him and still wanted to be with him anyway.<P>Anybody else following this horrible story? Actually, yes: Shannon Goddard (the OW) has repeatedly stated that she loves Doug Holtam... Even though she knew he was married she chose to have a relationship with him, even though she knows that he murdered his pregnant wife & daughter & knows that he tried to murder his son, she still claims she wants to be with him "always!"<P>If only the police had any proof that Shannon Goddard had any foreknowledge of or participated in the killings/assault, she'd be in jail right beside her man... Unfortunately this canny, evil, and manipulative OW only wrote love notes demaning "proof" that Holtam loved her and that she wanted him to "get rid of" his family for her... doug holtam is probably a sociopath. like ted bundy. they don't experience a sense of guilt as normal people do and thus aren't hampered with doing whatever they please. they become very good at imitating regular people and lead regular people to believe that they too are normal. no normal person can kill a family member without a powerful overriding passion driving them to it, such as revenge for an affair and then it is frequently aided by drugs or alcohol. afterwards, normal people experience tremenous pain and may become suicidal. i'm no expert, but i did stay at the holiday inn last night. just kidding.<BR>i've worked in a penal institution for 20 years and have read most of the books regarding this subject. i guess you could call me a layman or whatever.

Two died, one survived, in a wheelchair, in foster care now.
