Thought this poem I wrote would touch others.

DO YOU KNOW?

DO YOU KNOW…THAT PART OF MY SOUL IS STILL SHATTERED AND LOST?
THIS THING THAT WE’VE BEEN THROUGH HAD A TERRIBLE COST.
YOU SAY THAT YOU LOVE ME AND I KNOW THAT IT’S TRUE
BUT EACH TIME YOU SAY IT, I REMEMBER, YOU LOVE HER TOO.

I STILL CRY SO OFTEN BECAUSE I FEEL BAD
DO YOU KNOW…HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO STOP FEELING SO SAD?
SAD FOR THE LOST YEARS, WHEN I THOUGHT YOU WERE TRUE,
SAD FOR ALL THE LIES THAT WERE CREATED BY YOU.
MY BEST FRIEND, MY PARTNER, MY HUSBAND, MY SOUL
DO YOU KNOW…WILL I EVER AGAIN FEEL WHOLE?

I THINK OF HER SADNESS AND SOMETIMES YOUR OWN.
IS SHE STILL WAITING AND WONDERING IF YOU WILL JUST PHONE?
DOES SHE WATCH FOR YOU DAILY, TO SEE YOU GO BY?
IS SHE READY TO SAY IT’S OVER OR WILL SHE CONTINUE TO TRY
TO LURE YOU WITH MEMORIES SHE SENDS YOUR WAY.
DO YOU KNOW…IF YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF STOPPING TO SEE HER SOME DAY?

DO YOU KNOW…THAT I HAVE TO TRUST YOU-WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
I CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF WE WERE THROUGH.
MY DAYS WOULD BE EMPTY, BARREN AND SAD
I WOULD DREAM FOREVER OF ALL THAT WE HAD.
BUT OUR LIFE WOULD HOLD PROMISE—I KNOW IN MY HEART.
WE WILL TURN OUR BACKS TO EACH OTHER AND SADLY DEPART.

DO YOU KNOW…AND CAN YOU SAY,
YOU ARE TRULY WHERE YOU WANT TO BE, FOR THE REST OF YOUR DAYS?
DO YOU KNOW…CAN YOU PUT THOUGHTS OF HER BEHIND?
OR WILL THEY STILL HAUNT YOU FOREVER AND DWELL IN YOU MIND?
EITHER WAY YOU WIN—CHOOSING HER OR ME,
BEING WITH SOMEONE WHO LOVES YOU THROUGHOUT ETERNITY.

Do you know that the sun
will still rise in your heart?
Do you know that your thoughts
shape the world, and in part
the doubt that you feel,
and the power you give it,
to grow like a black seed
and flower in sin.
Pick the bloody bloom.
Cut the stem.
Smash it and burn it.
Never open again.
There is power in light
forgiveness and rain.
And the sins of the past,
can be buried at last.

It takes a long time to rebuild trust...in some ways, the innocence of pre-affair is gone forever...but what can replace can be more beautiful than what you had before. I know that my marriage is better, not worse because of the affair. I think there are far better ways of improving a marriage, and I am sad that we had to learn things the way we have....but the fact is....that we have still learned them. And I am happier now than I was before. Does that happen to everyone? No it doesn't. But I've got the experience to know that it doesn't have to be the end of trust or love. I hope this site will offer some encouragement for you. And your poem is beautiful.
