The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show soft-core porn hour-long infomercial touted to be "The Sexiest Night On Television" will be aired during primtetime viewing on CBS affiliates around the country on November 19. This erotic display of women strutting the runways in lingerie will portray women as nothing more than sex objects - where scantily-clad bodies are prized possesions. Last year, Concerned Women for America and National Organization for Women formally protested this show. This year, Feminists for Life spearheads the charge and Mind on the Media joins them!
We need you to register your disgust with this show ASAP.
What to Do:
1) E-mail the Federal Communication Commission - they have rules and regulations against obscenity and indecency and this virtually crosses the line. The FCC need your complaints in writing - you need to include your name, address, e-mail, and a brief description of your opposition.
The e-mail fccinfo@fcc.gov
Last year after the show the FCC's e-mail system was overloaded and crashed because of the incredible volume of complaints - let's triple that number! It's time for them to take these complaints seriously.
2) E-mail CBS - audsvcs@cbs.com
Threaten to boycott any sponsors fo the program (last year it was Budweiser Light and Dodge - intended for the largely male audience), as well as the CBS network.
3) Pick up the phone and call your own CBS affiliate. This is probably the most effective thing to do. Two affiliates did move it from primetime to the weekend after mid-night last year.
4) File your complaint also with the Parents Television Council on the e-complaint form (that will be forwarded via them to the fcc). Go to
www.parentstv.org/actionalert/fccform.asp 5) Take advertisements in the VS stores
Calling Victoria's Secret won't get you anywhere, but next time you are near a VS store feel free to take the "hand bill" advertisements near the cash register and throw them inteh garbage (a subtle act of civil disobedience).
6) Forward this information in an e-mail to every person in your address book!
