My wife of 9 years is going through the withdrawal period of having an affair. What can I say or do to help her and myself during this time? I'm so scared that I'm either going to do to little or to much. Any suggestions would truly be appreciated. [ November 25, 2003, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: robertms ]

robertms,
your question really got me thinking again. It's been such a long time since this was a part of our life.
When my WS was going through "Withdrawel", I wasn't even aware of what was happening as I didn't know about MB at that time.
Anyways, I'll try to explain what it was like for me and how my reaction was.
My WS was moody and he was extremely "demanding" so my reaction was sorta a mixture of "backing off" and "walking on eggshells" plus I was extremely "understanding".
I became the best "listener" I can imagine and I gave him every reason to thing "good and fond" of me.
I took the best care of myself and made sure that he too was happy and comfortable. I didn't demand anything nor did I tell him what he should or shouldn't do. We hardly had any "relatioship talks" nor did I ask anything about his affair. Due to the fact that his "taker" was still on the go, he probably would of "ran" at that time if I would of demanded anything.
The only point that I made "clear" was that I would not accept him to have any contact whatsoever with OW. I made it clear that it was either me or OW but I would "clear the platter" if he wouldn't break all contact.
It took awhile and what really helped us was when we went for a 2 week holiday to the Caribic.
This is when my WS really snatched out of his "withdrawel" phase. This was when we both fell in love with another again.
We've had plenty of "ups and downs" since then but I'd say we are happier than ever. bb
