The book suggests getting on anti-depressant meds for people going through this kinda thing. How do I know if I really need it or not? I am able to function all though I have trouble concentrating at work and giving my kids attention at home. Does it help with the ups and downs? The hi's and lows? The feeling hopeful one minute then hopeless the next?

Meds really helped me. I was like a zombie. Now I feel great and can get out and do things.
If you start losing interest in everday life, are sad a lot, wake up in the middle of the night, you might need meds.

Hi moving on,
As a general rule,if you are experiencing insomnia, depression, loss of appetite and loss of weight as well as fluctuation of emotions that *interfere with your daily activities and prevent you from doing them then it may be time for an evaluation.
For me,I have been on Remeron which has helped a great deal.I know if I were not on them I would be a mess.In the beginning of my induction to the world of infidelity,I lost a lot of weight, could not sleep for weeks, was severely depressed and had wildly fluctuating emotions not to mention I could not function/attend to my kids or anything else.
Since then, the AD's have helped to "stabilize" my emotions because I am not finished yet with the infidelity mess.
O

I would strongly suggest that you give an antidepressant a try. I am in the mental health field and also the BS. When the truth started coming out 1/8/04 I was crying every day. was not interested in food at all so lost a lot of weight, had extreme anxiety, and had insomnia (which I'm still struggling with.) I was functioning, but being a counselor I knew I was going into a depressive episode. Finally after much debating with myself I called my doctor and asked her to put me on an antidepressant. I knew my depression was circumstantial and the doctor told me "If it takes the edge off of your anxiety and helps you cope, go for it." I'm on Lexapro, and was shocked that it began kicking in so fast, although it can take a month to get the full effects. I am so thankful I got on it. It would have been so much harder to have dealt with the additional truth that has been emerging since. Good Luck!
