I take the pill form, in 25 mg. tablets... it never seems to work unless I take two at a time, but the prescription says one and then 2 an hour later... and I'm not suppose to take it unless I've tried the Fiorinol first... Hmmmm.....
How much do you take... or should I say "did" you take??
Thanks for your help on this one!!

------------------
~Sheryl
Nobody knows what you want except you, and nobody will be as sorry as you if you don't get it. ~Barry Manilow

Sheryl,
Hi there. Glad to try and help you.
Okay first of all when I took the pills which I believe came in 25 mg. and also 50 mg. strength the directions were the same except I thought it said take one and then an hour later you could take another one. I can't remember if it was 2 or 4 total for a twenty-four hour period.
I didn't like the pills. The side effects (the ones you could feel physically like the sensation that goes up your neck weren't as strong but lasted much longer). So I stuck with the shots. The Firinol didn't help me much at all and I ended up refusing them as well as the Cafergot.
The shots worked the best for me. There was usually relief with in half an hour. I only once had to take two shots an hour later. They were really a God send.
Hope this helped and if you have any more questions feel free to ask. I hear the inhalator is pretty good and fast too.
------------------
God bless you and all of us.
Samantha

I have asthma and an inhaler might not be my best choice... but maybe it's nasal?? That would be okay. Did you give yourself the shots??
I so agree about the Fiorinol... it does nothing.
Thank you so much for your help!! ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
------------------
~Sheryl
Nobody knows what you want except you, and nobody will be as sorry as you if you don't get it. ~Barry Manilow

You can take 50 mg then another 50 an hour later if needed. 4 in a 24 hr period.
Next time you refill the rx, just get them in 50mg tabs. If you catch the headache earlier enough 25 might do it, so break the pill in half.
The 25s and 50s are about the same price. The nasal spray may work quicker, but be careful with the asthma. It might not be such a great comob unless your asthma is well controlled.

Ah I see CL belongs to the migraine club. Yeah she has the directions right.
Sheryl,
Yes you give the shots to yourself...it has a automatic thingy that you put the shot in with a plunger and hit a button and whalla it injects you. Not very painful and the relief makes it a welcomed poke.
I found the shots the best. Ask the Dr. If you have RX coverage then your all set. Other wise I know that it can be pretty expenisive.
Sending much love
------------------
God bless you and all of us.
Samantha

YIKES! I'm a migrane expert! I've had them all my life and have had cluster and tension headaches if not a migraine everyday since Dec. 1987!
Follow the directions your doctor gives you! The pills never did work for me. Only the shots. You have to be very careful what you have taken to stop the headache besides the Fiorinal. (I use Fioricet....no asprin) Sometimes, I would over medicate, asprin, fioricet, sinus medication... ANYTHING, to get rid of the pain and be able to function! I dreaded having to take a shot, which you all know you are suppose to take at the beginning of the migraine or it doesn't work!
Just a warning from me about the Imitrex. I had used the shots for two years without a problem. Then one day, I took it and it didn't work. So I took the next dose and I felt like I was going to die. Not only did I not get rid of the headache, I ended up having heart palpitations and a hard time breathing. That scared me to death! I haven't taken it since. So be very very careful with your prescription! Do not take too much...

[This message has been edited by Lacee (edited January 10, 2000).]

Another member of the migraine club chiming in. I've had them since I was a young girl (for nearly 30 years). Unfortunately for me, Imitrex just does not work. I spent 4 hours at the ER 18 months ago... the whole ball of wax... fluids, muscle relaxants, imitres. The only thing that worked was the narcotics (headache was still there but I didn't care!).
Amazingly, ever since the death of my mother in September 1998 and disclosure in October 1998 I've not had a real, honest-to-god migraine. Maybe now my psyche realizes that there in no one I can count on to take care of myself but me and my body/brain is not going to let me down. ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
------------------
RobinAnn
*********
Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape!

WOW, girls... you do notice that? We're all girls!!!
I understand that men are the cluster migrainers usually... but of course, that's the kind I get too...
I've done all that you've all said: the overmedicating on pain, sinus, too many everything, held my head over boiling water to get some steam in there, had shots at the doc... sometimes NOTHING seems to help!!!
Thanks for the input everyone!!!

------------------
~Sheryl
Nobody knows what you want except you, and nobody will be as sorry as you if you don't get it. ~Barry Manilow

I have the Imitrex inhaler. The prescription says to take ONE, but it always takes me TWO to kill the migraine. The MD says it's OK to take two. The problem is, the insurance company whines because I am re-filling to quick, and they won't pay for it!
