Dr. switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin because of a skin rash. Anyone else using it? Got any comments?

I've been on Wellbutrin since Nov. 12.<P>The only side effects have been a littlte sleeplessness, at first. And dry mouth, my sister says I need to stop chewing the inside of my mouth...lol<P>My body used to be a toxic pond so drugs don't effect me like other people...lol<P><BR>Bill<P>------------------<BR>BB<BR>

I was on Wellbutrin before. I have a hard time with anti-deps. I know if they are going to work within 2-3 days. My Dr. said he also doesn't believe in that wait 6 weeks or longer to see if they are going to work. Most anti-deps give me bad dreams and make me cry way too much. They also do the opposite and make me internalize way too much. I then got put on Serazone. I like that one.......but got off because I only suffer occasionally now. That once a month thing haha. Well, the wellbutrim works great for me. I needed it because I was suicidal. Paxil only takes care of anxiety not the overwelming depression I was suffering from. I've been on it for almost a year now but have lowered the dose. They don't want to take me completely off of the meds because I am even more succeptible (Spell?) to depression in pregnancy. <BR>I can't tell you how much this has helped me because I was really far gone when I started with it.........Much Better Now!<P>------------------<BR>Chick's <BR>Bren<P>You won't see things until your ready to not be blind!<P>

Wellbutrin was very good for me---it gave me the ability to "think before speaking", and also helped me with patience. And (in MB-speak) I learned these behaviors with the aid of the anti-depressant, and they've stuck even after I went off.<P>I had dry mouth and sleeplessness as well, but those side effects are temporary (2-6 weeks in general). To contradict Nancy's opinion, you cannot tell if most"modern" antidepressants are going to work within 2-3 days. Pharmacologically, these drugs take some time to take effect in modulating seratonin leves (although Wellbutrin's mechanism is apparently slightly different). As the side effects subside (sleeplessness and dry mouth), the "benefical" effects increase. And your doctor can prescribe other meds to combat the sleeplessness for the first month---ambien (a safe sleeping pill) and nortryptiline (a tricyclic antidepressant that helps induce sleep) are both relatively effective.

I guess I should have said that I can tell if they are not going to be good for me. I have talked to alot of people about this very subject and have got a lot of different opinions. With me and quite a few people I have talked to expierenced the same crying effect within the first few days. Like I said....I had a lot of problems with anti-deps. I was on 100mg of Zoloft and attempted suicide.....had the same dream for over a week.....could not control my thoughts.....and sometimes had trouble remembering what happened yesterday. I would sometimes hide proof of his affair (papers, bills..etc.) and I am now finding them some 9 months later. My doctor kept saying give it more time...give it more time. Well after 4-5 months of total craziness I finally got off of them. Nancy finally started coming back. It seems now, according to a different doctor that I was probably over medicated. Paxil worked...but like you I broke out. Remeron seemed to work also but the dizziness I experienced wouldn't go away. I became so upset because everything Paxil, Remeron, Zoloft, Prozac, Wellbutrin.....they all seemed to not do the trick or had to many unpleasant side effects. I agree that you need to give all anti-deps time....but if the side effects are way to severe or make things worse you need to talk to your doctor.<P>I'm sorry, but I did not mean to insinuate that I was right...just that that is what happened to me. Crying more and internalizing more was not my idea of fun.<BR>Nancy

I have been on Zyban (same as Wellburin) for smoking cessation twice now. They charge twice as much if it is Zyban simply because it is going to us smokers and is not considered a "need". The first time, I was on the phone daily to the help line. - I had been feeling anxious, taste in my mouth (not just dry) seemed out of control, lack of sleep etc. Told to stick it out, stay on track and symptoms would go. True enough, after 7-10 days, I was left with more energy, motivation and good feelings. The other positive (for me) side effect was loss of appetite. I ate only what I needed to and desired no more. While regular appetite returned after a few weeks, I found that I still tended to not eat as much. Also, coffee consumption reduced from 5 to 1-2 cups per day (all part of the anti-addiction properties of the drug.<BR>Best wishes, good luck.<BR>Lisa

Another satisfied Wellbutrin customer here, too. <P>I've been on it just short of a year now, and it was definitely my saving grace throughout all of this. As I've stated more times than I can account for, my H might not be alive had I not been on this. I was on it for a couple weeks prior to discovery. <P>Anyhow, no real side effects for me. I've been an insomniac since birth, so can't speak for that negative. <P>The drug also helps me with energy. This is something I have a serious problem with, due to other health problems, so it's a welcomed effect. And it does keep you from eating, which is always welcomed in my book! <P>As far as the addictions it helps with, unfortunately it didn't stop me from smoking, but definitely curbed other unsightly "habits". Such as biting my nails. So, those properties definitely exist. <P>On a side note, my best friend is a Pharmacist and told me how they found out about the addiction fighting properties. Apparently, people who telling their physicians about losing the urge to smoke, without ever "trying" to quit. Upwards of 90%, of a later study, showed this occurring. <P>Anyhow, the drug had been around for quite a while before researchers started getting wind of this. It was all purely accidental. I just wished it worked for me. Otherwise, it's helped tremendously with my depression.<P>I hope it can do the same for you.
