Just when you think there is a chance and things are going to get better, the bottom drops out.
I didn't get a chance to discuss honesty or anything else last night. My D called from school after practice and said she had some exciting news. That we were going to be so happy. Report cards are due and H thought this meant her grades are up to par. This is something he demands out of her. No encouragement, or show of much caring about her, just those grades, period.
Anyway, when she came home with a girlfriend who was also excited. She showed me the report card first. Even though there could have been better grades on some exams, she managed to get by barely with a B- average.
She was disappointed in the D's but so releaved she still had a grade point average to get her on the honor roll list. The better news was that she was chosen by a photo stuidio to be a model for their brochure and porfolio. She has the look they want. And all her senior pictures will be free.
When she told H he just sat there and said,Oh
then went right back to looking and brewing over the report card. She was clearly embarrassed in front of me and her friend when he showed his lack of excitement. All he could do was harp on the grades. What an @sshole!!!! Yes, grades are important but so is the person. She left with her friend to run an errand and he wanted to talk about the grades. We did and I tried to explain about feelings and how he had just made her feel.
He didn't want to even try and understand this. When she came home she tried to explain it to him. No luck. He went to bed not talking to me and said he would never tell me anything concerning how he felt about anything. Mind you there was no big fight I was just trying to get him to see that there is more to being a parent than enforcing good grades. However, he left for work and never said a word to me. Right now things don't look good and I am beginning to feel that D and myself might be better off without him.
I just wish I didn't love and care for him so much. I'm hurt, angry and don't know how to get him to listen.
D feels he doesn't really care about her and has felt this way for a long time. This hurts and I can't nor can she get him to understand that. Not sure how much hope there is right now.
[This message has been edited by devastated2 (edited January 12, 2000).]
