My husband has a friend who lives off the kindness of others. Historically he has been unemployed, constantly in crisis, codependant on friends to join together to pay his way whenever he needs money. I can't stand this. Every Christmas we argue about what to get this charity case for Christmas. I say, don't end more than a card; I have tried to end this friendship between my husband and the charity case, but I have failed. My husband wants to spend more than we can afford on a present for this guy, and I am livid. What can I do?

If you haven't read about the Policy of joint agreement (POJA) do so. After you have read it ask your husband to read it and then talk about weather you as a couple want to use it as a foundation for decision making in your marriage. The problem you are stuggling with would fall under it.
You can't make someone not do something. That si why a policy like this is so valuable to the health of any marriage or relationship for that matter.

The Policy of Joint agreement is "Never do anything without an enthusiastic agreement between you and your spouse." That's it. But you need to read the other concepts to get fuller understanding of how to make it work. If you go to www.marriagebuilders.com/graphic/mbi3500_policy.html you can read more. Also click on the links to "Love Busters" and "Givers & Takers".
