My H has been snoring for the past 7 years of our 11 yr marriage, and I have suffered sleep deprivation for yrs now, plus frequent colds, etc. He has been tested and has mild sleep apnea, but won't use the machince prescribed b/c its uncomfortable - doctor also gave a humidifier to use with it, but still too uncomfortable.

Our home is too small for us to sleep in separate rooms. Sometimes he sleeps on bathroom floor.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is really destroying my health and is hurting our marriage. Debo <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Hi,
My Husband also has sleep apnea. It took him a month to get used to the breathing apparatus he has.

You and your hubby should know that long term sleep apnea has serious health consequences. Even if it is a mild case, every night he experiences some deprevation of oxygen to his brain destroying brain cells. Brain cells DO NOT regenerate. He will experience memory loss far sooner than normal, mild delusions, and depression as a direct result of the apnea, and there is a high incidence of heart valve failure associated with those who have sleep apnea.

Once my hubby got used to the thing, he found that he felt better than he had in years. He has been on the CPAP machine for 3 years now.

An added benefit for me is that he does not snore during the night with it on. The CPAP machine is far quieter than the snoring I also have not experienced any further hearing loss (85% of normal) since he was placed on the machine.

I sleep in a separate bedroom because of snoring; it actually solves quite a few problems (creates one or two, but solves more than it creates). But when we travel then we stay in a motel room together. For those occasions I try either a reasonably comfortable hearing protectors (kind you get at a hunting supply store, Peltier seems to be the best brand) and more recently I have discovered active headphones, very lightweight and they actually cancel low frequencies by matching the sound but opposing it. Brookstone sells one, so does Bose and some others. They were meant for airplane use to knock out the engine noise (and they work really well, by the way) but they are also effective on snoring and neighborhood ghetto blasters.
