I just registered with this site and am hoping someone can help me out.
I've been married for almost 2 years. My husband and I have a 7 month old son.
Since the birth of our child (none of this is because of him), our relationship has gone down hill. My issues with him involve his family and him not adjusting his priorities to our marriage and our immediate family. His issues of me deal with the way I handle conflicts and my anger.
My husband felt that our issues were very serious and he needed some time to be away. He asked me to move out with our son. I did and one month later, we're missing each other dearly.
My husband and I have been talking about getting back together and have discussed working through some of Dr. Harley's questionnaires and programs.
In initial discussions, I've found that he is not admitting to his faults. While I've told him that I didn't want to concentrate and dwell on past issues and I wanted to work on creating an extraordinary relationship with him, I need for him to know what caused my anger. I want for both of us to learn and understand the issues that caused us to be apart. He doesn't seem to accept his mistakes.
One of my issues with him is his needing to change his priorities to me and our son and away from his family. He seems to constantly put them before me. For example, his relatives are here visiting him for a few months. He has indicated that he is not going to be able to spend much time with me until after they are gone.
It seems like he is getting everything his way. He's indicated that he truly wants to make things work out and that he loves me dearly. I just can't have him continue to put his family before me.
What should I do?
