After reading through your web site and listening to the online copies of your radio programs, I must confess to having blundered in every way possible and having failed to succeed in meeting any one of my wife's top 5 needs (as I would guess them to be). We have been married nearly 25 years, and 4 kids at home, and she has left with the kids. Both she and I have suffered serious depressions over recent years and both are receiving medication and therapy for depression. She has given up and I want to try marriage counseling. Any suggestions for getting her to agree to at least try before heading toward divorce?

DW -
You have stared by taking that first step - realizing that you too are responsible for the state of your relationship.
There will be many more steps to take - requiring much patience and energy, but as long as that divorce is not filed there is hope.
Read Harley's Books (give and take and His neds Her needs), and also "Divorce Busting" (Weiner-Davis). The latter will give you plenty of new ways of looking at both yourself and your relationship.
When you feel you are losing grip, just hang on to the love you carry in your heart for your wife. You are not alone!
J
